You shouldn't be transcoding. When you open nero a window should pop up. You need to select dvd video over in the left side column. Once you have done that select new down at the bottom. Once you do that an Explorer window will pop up with your files on the right and an empty window second from the left. You need to locate your video_ts folder that you downloaded in the right window. Once you have done that you need to drag the files that are inside your video_ts folder over to the empty window that is second from the left (in the far left window you should see an audio_ts & video_ts folder). Once you have done that you are ready to burn :)

I did all that; but I got a "reallocation problem" and then a "compliance error"...uggghhh..i've used Nero for audio burning for years, but this dvd stuff is gettin' to me!

If you have Toast then you can use that but as you already have ffmpegX up and running you can achieve equally satisfactory results.

Unfortunately, MPG covers a multitude of sins and it's necessary to determine the exact nature of the files that you have. You need to know whether they are MPEG 1 or MPEG 2, what resolution & standard (i.e.PAL or NTSC), what codec has been used for the audio and what bitrate/sample rate it is.

You can glean this info from ffmpegX but I'd recommend MPEG Streamclip. Open each of the files in turn and go File->Show Stream Info (cmd-I).

Copy/paste the info box for all your files, see if the audio & video properties are the same for all and report the data back here.

Righto,
What you have are VCD standard MPEG files. Less than stellar quality obviously but the good news is you don't have to re-encode the video track in order to burn them to DVD. The audio will need to be upsampled to 48 kHz...in my experience this can lead to sync issues, at least using Toast but you may well get better results with ffmpegX.

Unfortunately, no one step method of passing the video through/upsampling the audio with ffmpegX would work other than the svcdvd option from the Tools tab, for which you need to register ($15). Small beer for supporting a great developer but free would be nicer.

You can mimic the process by demuxing your MPG files (Tools tab->demux) and then dropping the resultant MP2 file on the main window and selecting Audio file to MP2 in the target format.

Back at the Tools tab, select mux, navigate to the M1V file created earlier when you demuxed as the video and your upsampled MP2 for the audio 1 (ignore audio 2). Select DVD as your multiplexing option and let her rip.

It would probably be a good idea to test whether there are any nasty synhing issues on a smaller MPEG1 file first.

Authoring is just a posh word for knocking a raw MPEG file into a VCD, SVCD or DVD.

If you're registered then the tools thingy route is definitely the most painless method. I'd be interested to know how things go with the synching.

Regarding the sig...I've had no complaints yet, but then again I'm a compulsive liar ;)

hmm seems that I actually dont have a reg. for ffmpegx, i was thingking of a different app...will toast do it? here are the other apps that *might* do the job, they're somewhat video-related, will any work?

Toast 7 is the only one of those that'll do the trick, though you may encounter johnny sync issue.

I'm on my kids' (G3) machine at the mo but from memory you need to go to Toast's Video tab and select DVD-Video. At the bottom of the options drawer you can select Custom or, er...something else. Select custom and at the next window opt to re-encode video never. IIRC you don't get an option to bang the MP2 audio up to 48 kHz, just AC3 or PCM.

In this case I'd go for AC3 but you could use the demuxed and upsampled M1V and MP2 files from the ffmpegX option earlier on if you prefer. As long as they're identically named (apart from the extension) and in the same directory, Toast will automatically associate them with each other.

I know it sounds a tad complicated but stick with it, we'll get Pop his DVD :)

...Choose to save as a disc image so you can check the results with DVD Player or VLC before blowing a blank. On (slightly inebriated) reflection, you may find that selecting PCM audio with your unmodified MPEG may also lead to a merely upsampled MP2 audio track but, as I said, I can't check this at this moment.

in my experience, nero is a piece of sh@t! it is slow, the latest version doesn't allow you to set burn speed & 80% of the time has had problems loading or "analyzing" content or IF it does burn there have been freezing and/or aud/vid out of sync problems.
my P4, 1.4GHz, 384Mb RAM & less than 2 yr old lite-on burner should be adequate so i doubt it's my pc. i had an OEM bundled version which completely sucked. then was dumb enough to get a full retail version & it hasn't been much better. i rarely even try to use it unless i need to add menus/chapters (but it's rarely successful anyway).

Gear dvd & NTI dvd maker have worked for me w/o fail (for the same dvd's that nero had problems with). NTI could not be simpler to use & start to finish burns in 15 min's or less. (note: no menu adding capability though or either).

you can try the free dvd shrink of course & just use "no compression" (unless it's needed).

I've been trying to burn this Elliott Smith DVD and the program I'm useing is nero startsmart...so...here's the problem in a nutshell...its only burning half of the DVD and not the whole thing...it says "Failed to read the file %'s"...I've got a copy of the file saved and here's what it said...

I purchased a Comp USA DVD RW Drive...in it came the Bundle Nero 6 stuff...in the drop down menu when I hit start>Nero>there isn't an option for Nero Burning ROM...so uh...I did a surch on my comp and found the instructions for it...but no burning ROM interface...so uh...what do I do now?

there appeares to be something wrong with the dvd that I'm trying to burn...it always stops at 25% and then dosn't move after that...here's the log file:

by the 3rd VOB file it stops...I can't for the life of me figure out why it does this...this is the 5/7/03 Elliott Smith DVD and I've been trying to copy it for the longest time...I've swipped my comp clean 2 times in the hopes that it would take, but it hasn't...it plays just fine...its the burning of it thats the problem...so are there any people out there that know what might be going on...cause I shure don't... :disbelief

if you have dvd decrypter, have you tried ripping it as an ISO and burning it that way? I have one or two dvd's that that is the only way I can rip them. same deal, reads fine, ripping just doesn't happen unless it's in ISO.

Also, try running it through CD check and see if it comes up with any kind of errors. cd check is freeware, and it will rip it. If there are errors you will get a log-file telling you what it ran into. also it will repeatedly try and read that sector to get at least one clean pull.

so what does this mean?

:wtf:CRC errors are usually the machine telling you that it is having problems trying to read or write the files!

yep but I also think it means it's a bad burn too.

usually there isn't anything you can do about those. try and find where you got it from to replace it.

there is a weird difference in the way different programs and different computers read how big a file is , if you have checked the file plays fully then i would not worry to much about what size it says it is ( different ways of calculating the file sizes )

and i like toast been using it for years , toast as well as other programs should tell you easily enough if you have enough space on the disc

apple macs should just be able to copy with no problems , but if it says there is not enough room on the disc then you have little chance as it knows the real disc and file sizes
my guess is the only real chance you have to keep the original size is if there is extra files you can leave out ? or i think you will have fun ?

dvd decrypter, up top there is the option of modes. (IFO, ISO, file)

choose ISO to rip it and you should be able to use decrypter to read and write it.

I'm not sure it will work though, whenever I have that cyclic redundancy error, I usually cannot copy the full file to the pc. If possible, contact whoever sent it to you and see if you can get a new one. I think if it was possible to copy that cd check would have done it (did you try the recover button?)

I did try the recover button...and nothing happened...well it shut down on me but that was it...I can't get another copy of this dvd from the person I got it from as there busy all the time...so...I've attached the Nero Log file to see if that will help...I shure hope it does... :(

I know you're dealing with a DVD file here and my example is audio, but data is data and the same principle should apply, except for the fact that I had an option to decode the audio file:
I once had those same cyclic redundancy errors when I was copying .flacs from a DVD data disc back onto my hdd, and nothing would work....I copied every other file out of the folder except that one that just wouldn't go.
So I tried decoding right from the DVD drive with FlacFrontend but still no go...however, foobar2000 for some reason was able to do it.
So my point is to try copying this VTS_01_2.VOB, the one that won't go, onto your hd with any program that can copy data off of removable media, including plain old Windows, just to get that file onto your hd.
After you get them all onto your hd and into a VIDEO_TS folder, you can just burn it as data to a DVD disc with Nero or anything else that can burn data onto a DVD. If you're not re-authoring it, I don't see why you wouldn't just burn it that way to begin with. It seems to be much easier on my machine and it never messed up any of the DVD's I've burned that way.
If you have two DVD burners, try direct copying from disc to disc...anything that might get that file copied off of there

CRC errors are usually the machine telling you that it is having problems trying to read or write the files!

yep but I also think it means it's a bad burn too.

usually there isn't anything you can do about those. try and find where you got it from to replace it.
I thought write and burn were the same thing. :hmm:

Just downloaded my first DVD files (VTS_TS)

Files are showing as un-readable by my laptop. I have all the usual software for video playback, just not sure what I need to download so they will play or burn.

Any suggestions is much appreciated.

You need to have software specific for playing DVDs, not just playing video. VLC by videolan.org is a nice player.

And if you don't have access to VLC (no internet connection for example), the Windows media player will in most cases play VOB-files, if you're using Windows 2000 or higher. Only drawback could be that you have to start each VOB-file manually, as the player might not recognize the whole VIDEO_TS folder.

Onto a Data-DVD: everything
Onto a Video-DVD: VOBs, IFOs and BUPs into the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders. You can add other files into an EXTRAS_TS folder if you like, but then you can access these files with your PC only, standalones will not play them.

I just DL the phish Bluegrass dvd. My files pop up as "IFO" and "VTS" What do I need to do next??? The icons originally said "what program do you want to use open these?" so i chose to use bitorrent. but then the bittorrent keeps opening back up. also not sure what to do with compressing. please help???!!!!!

i'm still struggling with figuring out how to watch,burn, convert a dvd. THis is my first time to Trader's den and first time with DL a dvd. Do I need some conversion tool like FLAC, MKW like i use with audio files? All of the items under the DVD are listed as bittorrents. Do i need to change these to somehting else? Also do I need to DL "VLC?" ANy help is appreciated..

No, you don't need to convert anything. With Nero, select "Video-DVD" as type of project, then drag all files from the downloaded VIDEO_TS folder into the VIDEO_TS folder of your disk. Burn and watch.

On your PC you can play the DVD video files with either a DVD software player or Windows Media Player (in most cases). VLC is a superb prog, I'd suggest getting it. It plays DVDs as well as nearly every other video format around. And it's totally free.

I recently downloaded the Aerosmith Houston '77 dvd from this forum. The size on the thread said it was small enough for a dvd something like 4.25 Gigs. After downloading the files I went to burn the dvd with nero. After draging the video files onto nero the program unpacked the files and it is now to big for a dvd. I cannot even fit the show let alone the menues, slide show ect.

I have been running into this a lot. even small 500mb .wmv files are unpacking to be way to large for a single dvd. Sometimes Over 5 Gigs!!! What is going on here? Why can't I fit things onto dvd's? People say nero is thge best...almost everyone I know uses it.

How can I fit things onto dvd's when dvd burning programs make things so big

Any help would be appriciated!!!

You probably didn't chose DVD-Video as type of project. Try making sure that you got that, then just drag your downloaded VIDEO_TS into the one on your new disk.

I am using dvd video. The VIDEO_TS file is only a 8kb file and will not drag onto nero. What is the VIDEO_TS file anyway?? I dragged all of the 5 larger video files (example: "VTS_01_2") onto nero and the size became to big. Nero makes it bigger...the video files downloaded say mpeg file. I think nero decodes the files and makes them bigger. How am I supposed to burn anything on this ite or anywhere else when nero makes almost everything too big for a dvd+r?

The Aerosmith Houston DVD is only 4.04 GB, so it will easily fit onto the DVD. You want to drag all of these files into the VIDEO_TS folder in Nero:

When you see Nero doing any checks or conversions, it's already the wrong path. Look for an option to manually browse and add files to the VIDEO_TS folder.

when I drag the files onto nero it reads (in red) under the project window "problems may occur when burning the project. Press the details button..." when pressed it reads "the following problems were detected in your project: your project requires more space than available on the selected destination device..."

The Aerosmith dvd files are in mpeg format. And there is some decoding and/or encoding that occurs while nero accepts the files. All of the files when highlighted on windows display a total size of 4.04G yet when I drag them over nero makes them 4.86G

Also the dvd menu that was included with the download does not become the menue. Nero still provides a generic menu awaiting design.

Nothing is going right here...help!!!...please!!!!

No, none of the Videos hosted on this site are just plain mpegs. They all download as a fully authored, ready-to-burn DVD in a VIDEO_TS folder. I checked that Aerosmith DVD out and posted the list of files in the torrent. IFO, BUP, and VOB files are ready-to-burn DVD files and there is absolutely no conversion that should be going on.

Nero does that when it expects an MPG or AVI file for conversion to DVD. What Nero version do you use? In the meantime you can try it the old fashioned way:

1. New Project - DVD Data
2. File format ISO1
3. Somewhere you'll see a checkbox "UDF compatibility". Check it.
4. In your new blank project, generate two folders: One named "VIDEO_TS", the other one named "AUDIO_TS"
5. Move your content into the VIDEO_TS folder, leaving AUDIO_TS empty.
6. Verify all is fine, then burn.

Yeah, technically speaking they are MPG-files, and your Explorer will probably tell you so.

But the point is: All the files are just fine for burning. No need to alter anything. You just need to find a way to tell Nero to just burn them as they are.

The dragging into the Nero window you describe is definitely the wrong way. IFO and BUP files contain navigation data and need to be on the disc like all the other files from the folder. Again: Which Nero version?

I am using nero 7. Even when the 6 files (including the menu) are added manually (in nero>add video files>file browser>location>desktop>video_ts>highlighted all>open) it's the same thing.

The Video_ts folder on my desktop shows 10 files 2 say "backup file for the IFO"
2 say "IFO file" and 6 say MPEG File

There we go. Start Smart keeps fooling me too from time to time. In the Start Smart window, look for an option called "Nero Express". There should be a drop-down menu on the left of the window with that option, sorted under Applications.

True, a Data DVD would be tough for standalones. But you can burn a DVD Video with a window like that too.

Cool, glad I could help. The DVD seems to be surely worth it. I think if you use "make your own dvd" you can take an MPG or AVI and burn a DVD from it. To burn downloaded DVDs the Nero Express way is the better one.

I just downloaded the Ben Folds Five DVD from here, and it's telling me that it's 4.33GB. But, when I try to burn it using Nero, all of a sudden, it tells me that it's over 5GB, and will need 2 discs to burn. Is this common? And what can I do to fix it?
How are you burning this in NERO? Do you have a real version or only the OEM version?

Use Nero Burning Rom.

I think ONES is doing the job. Nero just wouldn't work, for whatever reason, even when I used Express.

How much is the registered version? And also, will the option "burn data disc to DVD" let me watch it on a DVD player? Thanks for the recommendation.

If there is a thread for this, sorry, I couldn't find it.

Lately I seem to be having a problem with dvds I burn for people that will not play in their player. Recently I did a big trade in Japan. Some of the dvds would not play in any of his players, but looked fine on his laptop, so he was able to reburn them. But... sometimes I make dvds for friends who don't have a computer. No, they are not either Pal or data discs

My player will play just about anything, so even if I check 1st, I can't tell if it will work for others

I have a PC with XP, I use TY disks, and I use nero. Anybody know what might be wrong? Or possibly the best way to insure compatibility?

When it comes to standalone players, compatibility can be a crap shoot. I have 4 DVD players in my house (3 of them similar model Sony's) and discs often work on 1 or 2 but not the others. Ive also received numerous trades where some of the discs played fine but others weren't even recognized except on my PC. So far my Philips has played every disc Ive thrown at it.

From what Ive read it seems to depend on the players. Some prefer + or -, while others prefer certain brands. Having a newer player seems to help. Some people have said that slower burns help, but Im not to sure about that. Burning high rated media too slow can make worse burns.

Well at least I'm not alone :lol When I'm trading, it's not usually a problem because they have a computer and can figure it out. The problems always occur when I'm burning something for friends who only have one player

Standalone players are always fussy about playing burnt discs.

Burning at slower speeds does seem to improve compatability a bit, and using higher quality media.

As far as dvd player brands, my cyberhome (30 bucks from walmart) will play anything, discs that my high end sony wont even play.

I am ripping DVD's with DVD Decrypter.

Am I loosing any of the main source in any way doing this? Am I re-compressing the data? Loosing bits?

Is there a tool for exact Video copy such as EAC for audio?

all the dvds here do not have copy protection thus it is not necessary to use dvd decrypter.

just drag and drop the VIDEO_TS folder to your computer, generate md5 checksums from the dvd you just copies from, then save these checksums to your computer and test them against what was copied to your hd. then if you want to burn another dvd from the verified files on your computer, burn it then generate checksums from that new disc and then run them against the files on your hd. so long as they keep matching up the extraction and copy are exact. it is a little different than audio cdr in this way.

Ok, I'm having some problems burning certain DVD's, and I'm looking for some advice on how to solve my problems.

I've downloaded http://www.thetradersden.org/forums/showthread.php?t=16571 this torrent, and when I am playing it in PowerDVD the show is in a normal 16:9 full screen aspect ratio and the video is skewed (as in, everything is too skinny). So, I burned the first disc onto a Sony DVD+R with ONES as "record data files to CD or DVD." I created an empty "AUDIO_TS" folder and dragged the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS into the contents area, and burned. However, I've got a couple of problems. Number one, I'm wondering if I burn discs this way if they will play on most older DVD players (I know they do in fact play on my new standalone player). Number two, when I burned the disc and popped it into my player, the picture was full screen (when I assume it should be widescreen). The video isn't skewed, but it is chopped off on the sides.

Now, I was also trying to burn this show: http://www.thetradersden.org/forums/showthread.php?t=21467 I did everything the same way as before, the first disc burned perfectly, but when I burned the second, it wouldn't play in my standalone player, because only the VOB files were burned. They now show up in the VIDEO_TS folder on my harddrive, but didn't burn to disc.

hi, i sometimes use a reauthoring or converting program even when i have dloaded a full dvd. you can then set what you want the output files to be, ie pal, 16.9 etc. then burn the output file. i never have a loss of quality. you could use win avi or shrink among many.

Ok, I'll try that, thanks for the advice.

However, now when I try to open the Set Two files from the UM 2002-05-17 DVD, it says there are no DVD video files to burn, when I select that folder as the VIDEO_TS folder. However, the individual files do play in PowerDVD. Also, when I try to check the Set Two .md5's, the mkw opens, then closes immediately. I have been having some issues with this computer lately, which is why I'm trying to burn so much off in the first place, but I'm thinking this could possibly be part of the problem.

every time i burn a duel layer disk it does not play in my dvd player. i have a DL. burner and all that jive but every time i end up having to shrink it to 2 disks to play it on my player if any one could help me out our maybe tell me what i might be doing wrong i would be very grateful. btw i have a g.e dvd player that plays just about any other disks but DL. :wtf: :wtf: :wtf: :hmm: :hmm:

I live in the USA, my standalone DVD player is region 1. My Lite-On DVD burner in my pc is set for region 1.
I just burned a dvd that my standalone player (Sony) will not play citing that it is "prohibited by area limitations" which I assume to be referring to the region code. I burned the dvd with Nero Express. It plays fine on my pc with PowerDVD.

I have since burned Hendrix at the Atlanta Pop Festival and that plays fine on the Sony.

What went wrong? Nero? The original files? I want to burn it again but not for another 30 cent coaster.

It was ELO Live in London 1976 - I got off of Zomb. It's been snatched over 50 times with no problems as far as I know.
Is there anyway I can read the dvd I burned on my pc to see what region it is showing?

I think there are lists online that give you codes that let you set your player to region 0. A friend brough the Led Zep live boxset once from the US and we got the code and it played fine. That said my DVD player was quite cheap and Sony are known for being awkward with this.

I know this has probably been brought up 1000 times but... I have a dual layer burner so I figured I could just drop dvd9 files into nero like dvd5's, then put in the extremely expensive dual layer disk and bling it up but I guess not. They burned to completion just fine so I figured it worked but they will not play. What special things do I need to do. I have wasted over 20 gigs of downloaded shit that I had to delete for space and 25$ on blanks. I got one blank left and want to get it right PLease help

Will they not play in the PC or a standalone DVD player? Some standalones won't play burned DL. As far as Nero goes it should have worked just fine if it completed the burn with no errors depending on how you burned it (for example dont burn VOBs as data it needs to be burned as DVD Video).

Gotta VENT: I've been burning DL-ed audio shows for years now and have ventured into video just recently, but I gotta tell ya I haven't had much success at all. Of the twenty or so shows I've downloaded (days on end, as you all know), only a handful have actually burned correctly. I use Nero (DVD vid , not data) have Windows XP, and have read all the forums for directions and help, but still get the following:
reallocation error when attempting to burn or it burns without error, but when playing in my standalone (which accepts dl-ed shows cuz I've played others), it either skips, pauses and freezes, or it says this is an "incorrect disc." The latter seems to be the problem currently (the Miles Davis part one, the John Butler Trio from Woodford for example)

Check a bad disc quality with http://www.cdspeed2000.com and post here a screenshot. Test speed should be set to 8x, regardless what you use for burning.

Are you using good quality DVD blanks or the cheap store brand types? Check out www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm for recommendations on choosing your dvd blanks.

I also recently started downloading dvd's and also use Nero for burning and I haven't had a coaster yet using Maxell and Sony dvd+r media.
This week, Office Depot's here have Sony 50 packs for $15. Watch for sales and the good shit is about the same price as the crappy dvd's. Less than a month ago Office Depot had the Maxell 100 packs for $28.

You said the show was in London, so am I correct in assuming its PAL? Regardless of the region settings, if you have a US Sony DVD player that will be the message you receive with a pal disc. There is a header trick you can use, where you change the ifo files to say NTSC and that should make the disc playable (Sony's can convert PAL -> NTSC on the fly but this ability is turned off). I dont remeber the details of it, but its not very difficult. Do a search for ifo edit header trick and you should find directions.

The latest version of IFOEdit states that it doesn't work well with WinXP. Are there any other programs to edit the IFO files that might work with XP?

The uploader at Zomb said it was NTSC with a frame rate of 29.970 but some one else has confirmed that it was PAL.

ive been burning all kinds of video dvds for yrs now and jus recently ive had problems with skipping. im using what is said to be high quality discs

You can also buy an Apex DVD player for 30 bucks that will play everything (NTSC and PAL, etc). That wat you'll never have to worry about doing the IFOedit thing.

There are menu hacks for most dvd players, try googling it.
Also, you asked about how to see if a dvd is Pal or NTSC, if you have nero, use the disc info tool, it'll tell you everything

Thanks to everyone, InfoEdit worked like a charm. I don't know if it affected the playback quality or not but it plays and was certainly a simple fix.

My entertainment center is too full to add a $30 Apex what with 2 amps, pre-amp, vcr, dvd surround sound processor, tuner, cd player, tv, center channel speaker and an audio switching box (lack of inputs on tube pre-amp).
glad that worked...the quality shouldn't have changed, as nothing was actually converted...i would still archive the orig files for trading, and use the IFOEdit-copy as yer "watchable copy"

I suggest using Toast, it's not free but is the best DVD burning software around for Mac. You can find it "discounted" if you look hard enough.

Torrentspy.com. You can watch on your comp by drag&dropping the VIDEO TS folder to your favorite player, Nero, WinDVD, You can also go for freeware, VLC plays almost everything. Hope this helps.

I have a Sony DVD player which states that it handles 5.1 and DTS.

I have a Sony Receiver that handles 7.1 and DTS

I have bought a few things that have enhanced audio: (Pulse DVD, Humble Pie - Live At The Whiskey DVD Audio, Yes - Fragile DVD Audio, etc.) I can listen to them in all their infinite glory. I can also listen to SACDs and the enhanced audio on the Dual Discs.

However....when I try and download a 5.1 DTS (like the toup beatles series or some of the Floyd stuff) All I get is the "white noise" from my player. I also get the same result with any 24bit show that I try and listen to as well.

I am using the latest Nero suite to burn. I have tried to burn several different ways. I even followed a tutorial of "burning image to disc". I still get the same results of white noise in my home audio equipment.

What am I doing wrong?
Do I need better software? or Upgrade audio equipment?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Just completed my first video torrent download and found that the .vob files have appeared on my PC as Nero showtime format!!. How can I change them to .vob or whatever they need to be in so I can burn them to DVD. Also can someone recommend a good download burning program.Thanksthat's becuase you have the file associations setup so that .vob is associated with Showtime. You should be able to burn with Nero express without changing your associations. You should have the .vob file associated to your DVD viewer... like PowerDVD or whatever you use. To change associations.... when in My Computer. Tools > Folder Options > Opens with ... browse to your viewer.

yer player &/or receivere may not be able to process 24-bit audio, which would explain the white noise when trying to play back 24-bit shows...as for the DTS problem, i'm not sure...it could be a problem with one of the components, have you tried playing a store-bought DVD with DTS? does the white noise occur as well, or just with home-authored shows?

also could be an issue w/ Nero :hmm: you should check out the program ONES--much better burning software!

The conversion is being done by the player, so how good it looks is based on how well the players converter performs, but most of them are fine for ROIO's. What I used to do to keep a tradeable copy is just backup the original ifo files and burn them onto the disc along with the altered ones (name them something like *.ifoORIG) and just switch back to those when burning a copy for a trade.

I use Nero too, and I can't figure it out, either. I think it has to do with the two layers. Do I just burn the two folders on the disc or do I have to insert the audio/video parts somewhere? What is the video_ts mean (or whatever the folders say)?? I hve like ten shows waiting to be burned, but can't figure it out and it's taking up my hd space... thanks for any help.

Maybe if someone could do a walk through on how to burn a disc, that would be helpful. There's no instructions on how to take a d/led show and burn it. :hmm:

I had the same problem with Nero, try using Ones. After my ones expired my nero magically started working. Also I do all my burning after a restart and don't open any other programs except for Nero. And like people say on here use the Nero ROM not the express or anything. Hope I could help.

I alway use IfoEdit (http://www.ifoedit.com/index.html) to double check before I burn. Just open the VIDEO_TS.IFO and hit get VTS sectors

I just got into downloading dvd files after years of downloading audio files. Now, while it is still new ground for me, I feel that I have progressed in a relatively decent manor; until today. I just picked up a 25 pack of sony dvd-r so i can watch concerts on my home player. Before I used the discs that were given to me when i got my drive from the store. They weren't bad, just that I could only use them on certain players. So, after pickin up the new blanks, I wanted to be able to burn the dmb2005-08-21 gorge concert that I had downloaded a while ago. So I place the disk in, message window pops up, close that, start nero (oem version), load all of the files into the video-ts folder. Once the program started, it went through all of the cache-ing that it goes through, and then and error message popped up saying that it was an illegal disk. At first I thought to myself that maybe the disks were labled wrong, checked it, sure enough - dvd-r. So I tried it again, same thing. And just to make sure that I wasn't going crazy or seeing things, I checked the drive info through nero, and noticed that my drive handled these types of disks. So... after reading so related topics on here, I decided to give ones a try (simple user interface, its great). So, I put the disk in, try burning, crapped out again, ran two tests through Ones, both crapped out. Even testing on 1x, it failed. As far as I know, its not the burner itself, because it worked fine earlier when I burned oar2005-11-19 from RPI field house.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I really want to get this off of my hd, so I can watch it, and have more space to download more.

1. Make sure the firmware (drivers) for your DVD drive is updated. I didn't see you note what drive you're using but just go to the manufacturer's website and they should have it there.

2. Make sure Nero is all up to date.

3. Could be shitty media. I've never used Sony so I can't comment on them overall, although you could have gotten a bad batch. Try #'s 1 and 2 first and let us know how it goes.

Shouldn't be the Sony's. I have a Lite-On dvd burner and it loves Sony's :) even more than the Maxell's I also have used. Sony's are amony the top-rated dvd blanks.

I can't tell you what you're problem is. Dumb question but it's probably something I would do - did you accidentally put the dvd blank in the Lite-On LTN486?

nah... when i place the disc inside of my burner, the little window pops up asking what you would like to do (burn audio, use nero, etc.) so atleast I know its recognizng the disk as blank media

Ok so I dload a video from a torrent and it has a menu.

How do I use the menu in Nero 7?

This is driving me crazy! I have never burned a dvd so I am trying to figure this out.. For some reason when I want to make my own video it keeps taking me a menu edit screen (like if wants to make a generic menu).

How do I insert the menu that comes with the dloaded video? I have been looking at all the options and I don't get it.

Video_TS where do I put it to make it all work?

you are using the wrong program. You need to use Nero xpress, not vision express. and everything will make sense. You don't need to make your own menus. They are already contained in the video_ts folder. Just choose dvd video and drag the video_ts you downloaded onto the video_ts folder and click burn.

I'm just getting into burning DVD's. I just finished downloading the Phish Miami DVD. The download is split into two folders: set 1 and set 2. Each folder has its own VIDEO_TS files in it. How do I work with this in Toast to burn 1 DVD? I've been searching around here without any luck.

I would think you would have to burn that to 2 discs. A dvd can only have one video_ts folder.

Hello,
I've posted on another thread about this and got no help. I sucessfully dled the torrent but I can't burn it with toast titanium in dvd mode. I can when I change the menu to data dvd/clicked dvd rom but I can't watch it. I've tried on multiple dvd players and my mac and it won't play. I already searched the tread about this show to no avail. It's weird, the encoding starts and 3/4th of the way through it aborts. Never happens on anything else from this site. Couple questions for you kind folks
-what software do I need to simply watch the dvd on my mac, do I just drag the video ts file into said program?
and
-is there another freeware dvd burning program that I might have better luck with?

Thanks for the input in advance, it's driving me crazy that I can't watch this "holy grail" of phish dvds. :hmm:

I am attempting to burn a show using DVD Lab Pro using the same process I have many times before. But this time I get an error message that reads "Addresses in VMG IFO does not match the actual file sizes. Abort" Does anyone know how to correct this error. P.S. the torrent was Scofield, Cobham, Duke, Johnson 1976-07-06 Montreux (NTSC). Any advice would be apprciated.

try burning in data mode "DVD-ROM (UDF)" [not Mac Only or Mac & Pc]...make sure to add the VIDEO_TS folder and an AUDIO_TS folder [leave empty]...alot of standalone DVD players will play a disc burned like this, its worth a try

Here are some instructions on how to burn it *not* in Video DVD mode in Toast and have it work on DVD players (I only burn using this method because I like to add the md5s, text file, and covers onto the DVD for storing purposes).

This is what I want to do: I would like to make a DVD where each video file is its own chapter.

There has to be some simple DVD burning software where I can just drop a bunch of AVI files in, and it burns me a disk...

Uhhh.. I am downloading a video... The whole thing is in a VIDEO_TS directory and there are a bunch of files with extentions .VOB, .IFO, etc... So what do I do know? How can I make a DVD out of this.

When burning dual layer dvd's I found that copytodvd was the only program that worked. If the dvd does not play. Try shuting off the player and restarting. I have burned dvd's that my player would'nt play and then later...it played them. weird...

Have you tried making an image with DVD Imager (http://lonestar.utsa.edu/llee/applescript/dvdimager.html), mounting that and then ripping with MTR ? I don't know if it will work but it might be worth a go.

Have you tried burning it using Data > DVD-ROM (UDF)? Maybe trying it that way would not cause that message to appear.

Everything has been ok until the last week or so.

I have downloaded the U2 12/06/2006 show and i have burned the disc using Toast vesion 6.1.1 using DVD Video-from Video_TS tab and altough the picture is fine there is no sound. The disc seems to have the correct files in the folder and verification was Ok.

I am playing the shows on my Mac.

I have had the same problem on 4 other shows although 1 show has burned correctly with sound.

I have been downloading videos and want to burn what I have downloaded. I can watch them on my laptop but I want to burn to DVD and be able to play in my stand alone player. Looks like all the files I have thus far are .vob coupled with .bup, .ts files. What do I do now? Are there free converters? A nice step by step guide would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

no conversion is necessary. These are ready to be burned with your favorite DVD burner program such as Nero xpress or Prassi ONES, etc.

I think there is a tutorial for Nero somewhere on here. You need to use Nero Express... not Nero, Not Record now, Not Vision Express, etc..... You should be able to open just Nero Express. Then you click make DVD video. click add. browse to dvd that you are trying to burn. Then drag the entire video_ts folder on top of the video_ts folder on the left. Then click burn. It will be easy after you've done it once. Ignore and burn anyway if it says file allocation error.... that's a Nero bug. Good Luck! :)

I am going to d/l ONES as suggested just to further my experience. For anyone who is using Nero, I need advice I make it thru the first phase of transcoding or something like that and then it says it failed and ask if i want a log. Of course i have no freakin idea wth the log is telling me. I just want to make a DVD !!<sobs> Guess i don;t know what the problem is. it never burns it just goes thru the first long phase of the process....

Now Itried using ones and I got the same thing except it hapend faster. Once i hit burn it ejects my disk and gives me an error msg.

So now something interesting is happening. I decided to see if i could just burn some photos to a disk on a CDRW and al went ok. Then I decided to make a back up of some mp3, shn's etc on a DVDR and it spit it out over and over no matter what progream i use.... Someone help I am so confused.

Are you sure your burner will burn DVDRs? And, if so, does it burn both DVD-R and DVD+R or only one type (maybe you bought the wrong type).

Well, it should tell you in your computer manual what type of DVDs it likes. My Mac will only burn to DVD-R, but it will read DVD-R and DVD+R. As for the difference, you can probably google it and find a technical paper about it.

you can try just burning as a data DVD with two folders

the VIDEO_TS folder and the AUDIO_TS folder

the video folder should have all the files in it.. the audio folder will be empty. Even though it is empty, a lot of dvd players require that it is there

The software that came with my sony, Click to DVD, will not work with the file I downloaded. It gives me the error message, does nto support clips less than 1 second long.

Am I making a mistake or do I need to install better dvd burning software. IF new software is needed, any suggestions? The ones mentioned in the FAQ are not available online anymore.

Hmmm...I'm not familiar with that program. Since it is a DVD burning program you should be able to put the VIDEO_TS folder containing the VOB files into the burning menu somehow(add files maybe) and click burn !! If you cant make it work - try using one of the other programs available for free download, like nero - it has a free 30 day trial I believe. I use nero for all my DVD burning. You can get it at filehippo.com, or just google nero and go their site for the trial download version.

burn a "data dvd" (default) with the VIDEO_TS folder you downloaded as well as an empty AUDIO_TS folder. also recommended is to add an EXTRAS_TS folder and dump the artwork and info-type stuff in there. that way you have a tradeable & watchable DVD.

well, I know this is a very old thread.But I just learn some related information, so I'd like to post here. If disturbing, I am sorry.
When you open a DVD disc, usually you will find two folders there: AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS. AUDIO_TS folder is generally empty because it is used primarily for DVD-Audio. While VIDEO_TS folder contains files with BUP, VOB, and IFO extension. All of them play respective important roles so that a DVD player can recognize them and play DVD smoothly.

VOB (Video OBjects): VOB is the container format in DVD-Video media, which contains digital video & audio, subtitles, DVD menus and navigation contents multiplexed together into a stream form.

BUP (BackUP): The BUP file is exactly the same as the IFO file, which is a backup of the IFO file.
