remastering my master, hisssssssssssssssy...
Hi there,
years back I recorded a show from the tele on my pc, via tv card on a music chanel. now I wanted to remaster it as its hissy . you won't notice the hiss that much when music is played but when the singer talks to the crowd, it sucks. I started playing around with adobe audition 1.5, trying to remove that noisy hiss but everything I do, it just doesn't sound right; the hiss is gone, so are other sounds if you know what i mean. also, I have no idea about mastering, I would know how to normalize that recording and thats it. I need an advise of somebody who's experianced with this. I uploaded a WAV(3mb only), you cannot listen to it on there for some reason but downloading works: http://www.zshare.net/audio/remasterme-wav.html this is my sample, not changed in any way, just as I ripped it from my master cdr. if anyone could please dl it and have a look and if you have any advise or hints what to do, how to make it sound ok, please let me know. I would like to remaster it myself, not because its my master, also to learn about it, but I just don't have the time to play around as I'm not really patient with things like that and my spare time is very limited at the moment. I can hook you up with a sample when they play also. its a foo fighters show by the way. my intension was of course to torrent it, but not with this fuck!ng hiss... hope to hearing from you, thanks for reading ![]() No members have liked this post.

Re: remastering my master, hisssssssssssssssy...
I've heard much worse in terms of hiss. I would leave it, maybe just normalize the whole show at once and cut on the cd sectors.
the fastest way to ruin a show is by somebody with little experience using nr. you could try this setting but listen to the results, there is less hiss but it sounds lifeless & bleh, plus I haven't tested it on the music portions which you said yourself don't need nr anyways, so it would only do harm. I strongly recommend not using nr, it sounds excellent without it.

Re: remastering my master, hisssssssssssssssy...
cheers for that buddy, but how do i use this fft file on my wav? I can open it with adobe but it seems its empty or something..?
I just wanted to give it a try remastering as it sounds like it has been sourced from a VHS which isn't true. I wished MTV had broadcasted this, when I used to record of MTV it wouldn't have had any hiss... anyways, just tryed out and played around and here it is for comparison: 1. 20sec flac (original) http://www.zshare.net/download/20secoriginal-flac.html 2. 20sec flac (with hiss reduction)# http://www.zshare.net/download/20sechissless-flac.html 3. 20sec flac (hiss reduced + I put up the volume and balanced left/right channels, so they are at the same level now, as one of them has been louder than the other one.) http://www.zshare.net/download/20sec...svol-flac.html please let me know what you would suggest to upload, I personally think reducing the hiss does a good change with the original, far better than when I tried out yesterday... Re: remastering my master, hisssssssssssssssy...
I hate to say it but the processed version sounds completely muffled, all the sparkle and life is taken out of the highs, like a blanket over the speaker. Not only the hiss is removed, most of the cymbals as well! Just listen to it side by side. My profile I put up doesn't sound any better than your efforts on the new sample (to try it, unzip then go to effects>noise reduction>noise reduction>load profile from file and find the .fft file).
I recommend making a nr'ed version for yourself and sharing the raw and perhaps normalized version (be sure to check the correct dc offset box). I've made some bad mistakes with heavy-handed nr when I first tried it, and also use it all the time for work but in this case I would stay away from it... its sucking the life out of the sound. some hiss is much more preferable.
