Re: flac player

you can also use winamp with the flac plugin. If you install winamp first. Then the flac frontend it will add the plugins for winamp for you.

Re: flac player

I have used VLC before to play videos, which it does great. I did not think of using it to play audio. I am not sure if it plays flac.

Re: flac player

these days the new versions of winamp play flac with no extra plugins installed. woo-hoo. you can also go in the settings and enable 24bit playback.

iirc vlc can play flac too

Re: flac player

vlc will play flac without decoding. at least it does on the mac side of life. Also for macs, you can use Toast Titanium for flac playing, and can burn discs without decoding as well.

Re: flac player

VLC does play flac without decoding on the PC. Great little program.

Re: flac player

I have to say I switched to foobar this weekend to try it out. And I like it. For some reason I was confusing it with dbpoweramp, which sucks IMO. Only thing I dislike is it doesn't play shns. Or I haven't spent enough time to figure it out. I get the unsupported file format error. Perhaps there is a plugin. I also like how the GUI is much smaller in winamp. But I am liking foobar.

best I can suggest is to get an iPod-like device that plays lossless and hook that in thru your lineins or a cassette adapter or whatever. Most iPods can be rockboxed (rockbox.org) to play shn & flac but the very latest models, touch and some others are not supported as of yet.
