Question All My Torrents Banned From Dime

Hi, I have just recently started on with torrents a few months ago, and have been converting some of my recordings and posting them on Dime. Last night, the admin banned all 5 of the concerts I posted with the following message:

Torrent: 543251
Title: Phish 1994-07-10 Saratoga NY USA
Uploaded by: freddysneaks
Banned by: DIME Site Mod

Reason
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Without more details on the original format and at a bitrate of 192 kbps this one can't fly here:

http://wiki.dimeadozen.org/index.php...sy_Audio_Seeds

A torrent has been banned from DIME.

Torrent: 551875
Title: Bob Dylan 1994-07-10 Tanzbrunnen Cologne Germany
Uploaded by: freddysneaks
Banned by: DIME Administrator

Reason
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Without more details on the original format and at a bitrate of 192 kbps this one can't fly here:

etc. etc.

So I'm wondering what I did wrong. This is the information I'm posting on the conversion:
Source & Location: DSBD source, location Unknown
Conversion: JVC TDV661 Tape Deck to a Tascam SSR1 (44.1kHz stereo with 192Kbps bitrate)>CDWave> flac
Renamed and Organized via CD Wave Editor,
converted to flac via Trader's Little Helper

However, I have hundreds of recordings, most of which I did not tape myself, so I'm not always going to know the provence of a particular recording unless I was standing there taping it myself. Also I'm not sure how the 192kbps bit rate is so low? I'm converting from .wav to .flac. hmmmm

Re: All My Torrents Banned From Dime

I think it's the "192kbps" in your info file that's throwing the mods off, at least in part.

Check page 35 of the Tascam owner's manual, and you'll see that even though "192 kbps" is shown on your "Record Format" screen, if you are recording .wav, the "192" is not part of the record chain, that's just the default for recording mp3s.

You may wish to make sure that you are indeed ending up with lossless files, but I'm guessing you are. traderslittlehelper will do this.

The rest of the problem is likely your lineage in your info text. As these are your own cassette recordings, your lineage should look something like this:

Recording: Sony ECM-909 > Sony TC-D5M
Lineage: Master cassette > JVC TDV661 > Tascam SSR1 @16/44.1 > SDHC memory card > PC > tracked and renamed with CD Wav Editor > flac and checksums with traderslittlehelper.

I hope this helps.

Not that mwonter didn't give good advice, don't you think the place to ask is over at Dime? They do have a mod email and they do have a yahoo group. They are going to be the best people to tell you why they banned your torrents.

Because what you likely should have put was....16 bit/192 kHz

dime mods and admins are always right and never second-guess themselves, so why would they even bother reading an email from someone on the other end of a ban?

Youīve right, the mods of Dime are arrogant wiseacre. Reading emails from an user who needs help, why?

The only qualification to become a Dime Mod is that you must be able to stick your own head up your arse.

I'm sure that you and mods and admins here hate it when people post questions about other torrent sites, but one of the greatest things about this place is that you have these forums where we can ask questions. And like others have mentioned, the Dime mods can be jerks (I don't know if that's the official policy there, or if they just have to deal with a lot of crap, but it is what it is).

Re: All My Torrents Banned From Dime

I guess I've been awfully lucky there - I've had help and positive response from Dime mods when I've had to ask questions about a couple of torrents I wanted to upload there. There were a couple of possible things in each that I wasn't sure about, and they replied within a day to clear up my hesitations and in one case give me permission to upload an upgrade in it's most complete form to something that had previously been posted with missing (and omitted) tracks...

I mean, I've heard stories of woe and horror of mods with egos and shit - just haven't really seen it first-hand...

To the O.P.: any luck getting answers from them yet? email them, and explain what's going on. You might hit a "good" mod by the luck of the draw... I wonder how many mods they have there, anyway???

The mod knows nothing about audio formats or calculations, and you may be confused as well. I don't believe you are recording 44.1 @ 192. It is much more likely to be 48 Khz. 16bit/44.1 Khz = 176.4 KBs. 16bit/48Khz = 192. . Now I'd use mediainfo to see if my flacs are redbook [16/44.1], they are likely 16/48 as well, meaning they cant be burned to cd, so he's lucky in that he should ban your uploads but not for being lossy, but because they are actually to a video standard [48Khz]. In that case DbPoweramp could be used to properly dither the files to 16/44.1

for more info on audio calculations:

http://www.audiomountain.com/tech/ca...culations.html

"PCM Stereo Calculations

Formula:
Bits per sample x samples per second = bits per second x 2 channels = bits per second of stereo / 8 = Bytes per second of stereo x 60 seconds = Bytes per minute of stereo x 60 minutes = Bytes per hour of stereo.

16 bit, 44.1 KHz, Stereo: [176.4 KB per second; 10.584 MB per minute; 635.04 MB per hour] (Note: This is the standard setting for CD audio files)
16 bits per sample x 44,100 samples per second = 705,600 bits per second x 2 channels = 1,411,200 bits per second of stereo.
1,411,200 bits per second / 8 = 176,400 Bytes per second x 60 seconds = 10,584,000 Bytes or 10.584 MB per minute of stereo.
10.584 MB per minute of stereo x 60 minutes = 635.04 MB per hour of stereo.

16 bit, 48 KHz, Stereo: [192 KB per second; 11.520 MB per minute; 691.2 MB per hour]
16 bits per sample x 48,000 samples per second = 768,000 bits per second x 2 channels = 1,536,000 bits per second of stereo.
1,536,000 bits per second / 8 = 192,000 Bytes per second x 60 seconds = 11,520,000 Bytes or 11.52 MB per minute of stereo.
11.52 MB per minute of stereo x 60 minutes = 691.2 MB per hour of stereo"

Re: All My Torrents Banned From Dime

So in the end you are confusing file size 192 KB with bitrate [Kbps]

Stereo

Formula:
Bits per sample x samples per second = bits per second x 2 channels = bits per second of stereo / 8 = Bytes per second of stereo x 60 seconds = Bytes per minute of stereo x 60 minutes = Bytes per hour of stereo.
Settings
Bitrate |File size per second | File size per minute | File size per hour

16 bit, 44.1 KHz | 1,411.2 Kbps |176.4 KB | 10.584 MB | 635.04 MB

16 bit, 48 KHz1 | ,536 Kbps | 192 KB | 11.520 MB | 691.2 MB

24 bit, 48KHz | 2,304 Kbps | 288 KB | 17.28 MB | 1.036 GB

24 bit, 96KHz | 4,608 Kbps | 576 KB |34.56 MB | 2.0736 GB
