EVERY time i try to make a dvd on a Mac using uncompressed wavs as the audio it tells me it can not burn because the bitrate/data rate is to high thanks example i had a 48 minute video with a bitrate of 8 and it said it was to high to burn on a standard dvd-r No members have liked this post.

Whatever program you're using is trying to keep you under that to be safe. Is there a way to disable the warning it's giving you and create it anyway? No members have liked this post.

For it to have given that message at 8 mbs, you could have a setting wrong somewhere. Check them all in FCP or whatever you're in.
According to the calculator http://www.videohelp.com/calc.htm 8227 for 48 min w/ LOSSLESS audio (FYI - its the 1536 audio bit rate option) No members have liked this post.

Re: whats the HIGHEST Bitrate you can use with UNCOMPRESSED Audio
He never says he's using FCP. On a Mac he very well could be but it's never stated for sure. 9.8MBps is the limit to keep a DVD standard. That includes video and audio bitrates. If he's using 44/16 audio he could use 8MBps for the video and the audio would be a hair over 1.5MBps. That goes just under the DVD spec of 9.8MBps total. There may be a setting in his program that tries to keep it under 8MBps total or something like that.
I use this calculator BTW: http://dvd-hq.info/bitrate_calculator.php No members have liked this post.

LPCM audio = 1.5 MBps = 1536 kbs

Re: whats the HIGHEST Bitrate you can use with UNCOMPRESSED Audio
You can actually go over 9.8MBps but you can't guarantee that some players won't choke on anything higher. Assuming the OP has not missed any details there's no reason his program should stop him from making a DVD with 8MBps video and 1.5MBps LPCM audio unless the program automatically tries to keep projects at 8MBps or under total. We still don't know what program for sure so maybe it's just a safety feature of that particular app to keep people who don't know what they're doing from making non-spec discs. That's just my guess.

Re: whats the HIGHEST Bitrate you can use with UNCOMPRESSED Audio
Yes. 44KHz/16 bit audio is 1536kbps. 8MBps video + 1.5MBps LPCM audio is 9.5MBps which is under DVD standard of 9.8MBps maximum for audio and video combined. Like I said, you can actually go over 9.8MBps, somewhere up to about 10.5 I think, but it will be out of spec and many players might choke on the above average data rate.
Edited: Oops. I wasn't paying attention. Sorry about that. 48KHz/16 bit. No members have liked this post.

I had it partially right. That's more than I usually get with my old lady.

Re: whats the HIGHEST Bitrate you can use with UNCOMPRESSED Audio
so i looked at my setting today and nothing jumped out at me
there was one with a bitrate for video but nothing for overall bitrate or for audio the setting is also for it you use dvdsp to encode, i always use compressor out of fcp though i guess i will have to wait till i have a dvd to try it out on again since i got rid of the files for the one in question after burning it with ac3 No members have liked this post.

Re: whats the HIGHEST Bitrate you can use with UNCOMPRESSED Audio
Yes it is 8227kbit for video if you have 1536kbit audio.
If you open the inspector on your settings in compressor (command-I or double click the MPEG-2 target), you should see a menu like the screenshot. If you're using VBR, keep the MAX at or under 8.0 Mbps. If you're using CBR, keep the avg at (or under) 8.0Mbps. 8.0Mbps = 8192Kbps, which is as close as you can get it to 8227 in compressor without going over Unfortunately some videos are unusual and encoders just won't listen to your max bitrates, and give you a spike. In something like CCE you could edit the VAF file and manually change the bitrate, but I don't think compressor lets you tweak very much. No members have liked this post.
