LP4 mode?

Hi,
this is Dave Gahan 2003.11.24 Milan [MD4].I know, that was used Sony MD(no more info). And I saw, that other trader have this show at MD1 generation with comment:"It looks like MP3, but NOT for sure. I had the master from taper... It`s LP4 mode!!"
Anybody can help me? It`s lossless or mp3 sourced? Sorry, bad question- it`s really can be LP4 mode or mp3 sourced?

that is definately lossy.

great job on the screenshots, that is exactly the view needed to analyze.

no way to be sure what compression codec was used, but it looks like MP3 to me. Bad mp3, like 128k or even 96k, maybe. The 14 kHz brickwall is abnormally low and it is very blocky. There's a lot of artificial sound in there.

thanks for answer, but in "Bad mp3, like 128k or even 96k" I see "lego". But here...maybe some noise reduction? I just don`t want to believe, that it`s mp3

no way.
That's lossy data compression. Probably digital NR, too and God knows what else.. that is ugly audio for something recorded in the current century.

it`s funny, but TLH test for mpeg shows, that it`s cdda

The author of TLH is here at TTD... maybe he can have a look at why that result would be returned. Maybe it's just seeing 44.1k / 16b or something. Doesn't matter.. it's been molested, or recorded with a lossy recorder.

what you`re thinking about this? at 2sec shot I see "lego", but no cut in one line like mp3...(it`s other show)

LP4 minidisc recording is very lossy to allow so much time per disc. Not MP3, but no better really.

LP4 is 66kbps ATRAC3, according to wikipedia.

TLH's 'detect mp3' function (audcdtect) is not reliable...

old thread I know but I'll pitch in both are very obviously lossy. appears to be lower-quality md setting on the 1st, 2nd is strange since it goes up to 22050Hz but blocky blocky blocky lossy!

understand: it's been through very, very lossy digital compression. Three months' time passage doesn't bring back the lost audio data

yeah, lossy is in there for sure could have cassette as well who knows its a really weird one.
