XLD - OS X ripper with disabled cache and AccurateRip

Sorry if you see this post on Hydrogenaudio...too excited so I just C&P'd it. XLD which has long been my converter of choice recently added the ability to rip with CDParanoia. Been there, seen that on the long, long journey to secure ripping on a Mac.

Well, its ripper has matured very quickly:

"What's new in this version:

* Supported AccurateRip database to check integrity of the ripped tracks To use, read offset correction value should be correct (please refer to here). Not available when pregaps are excluded.
* Added option to disable cache of the drive Cache should be disabled to rip in cdparanoia mode.
* Added support for CRC calculation Both the standard CRC and the EAC-compatible one are displayed.
* Improved log display format"

If it really can do what it says on the tin, well it's pretty big news.

OK, so it's a wee bit sad to be excited over a bit of software but for as long as I've had a computer I've run VirtualPC, Boot Camp, Fusion, you name it, pretty much just to be able to use EAC.

Time to dig out my trusty damaged discs and do some ripping tests.

Re: XLD - OS X ripper with disabled cache and AccurateRip

Have you done any comparisons of rips with EAC vs rips with XLD? I recently installed EAC on my Mac. I had to install Parallels to use it and that is the only reason I installed Parallels. If there is finally an equivalent ripper to EAC for use on a Mac, I'd love it!

Not yet Lynne, I only saw it had been updated about 20 minutes ago.

My Wife's coming home after a fortnight away and she'll be a tad pissed off if I sit there constantly re-ripping the same T.Rex CD all night

Still, she's got to go to sleep sometime...

Hehe.

I'll see if I can perform some tests here. My hubby's gonna be spending time installing a new stereo in his car, so I should have some time.

Re: XLD - OS X ripper with disabled cache and AccurateRip

I did a single test today comparing 5 tracks being extracted from a live music burnt CDR.
Test 1 - XLD with default "Include pregap in the end of the previous track" setting
Test 2 - XLD with "Exclude pregap from output"
Test 3 - EAC

I then made shntool md5s of the five tracks I extracted (the first five on the CD). The st5s from Test 1 and Test 3 matched.

So, that's a starting point.

Re: XLD - OS X ripper with disabled cache and AccurateRip

According to this thread on Hydrogenaudio, the cache may not be being disabled which is a bit of a blow if confirmed.

Oh well, we still get a decent log, offset correction via a GUI and AccurateRip support, though that's not likely to be of much use with bootlegs etc.

Re: XLD - OS X ripper with disabled cache and AccurateRip

I appreciate the guide: X Lossless Decoder (XLD): How to create flawless CD rips on Mac OS X. I'm hard on CD's, scratch them up, and my stand alone player died so I rip them and play 'em on the mac. amazing flawless results with old scratched cd's.

will XLD do checksums? having trouble getting st5's out of xACT with the new system/new iMac. does ffp's like lightning, but it's the principle of the thing.. I'm a bit ocd.

lookin around r5

Re: XLD - OS X ripper with disabled cache and AccurateRip

after more practice with xACT + new system + faster chip > seems like program just needs to 'warm up' a bit on each new set of files.

fails a few times - thats easy to see as the st5 is only 76k, it's empty, throw it away. after a few times it does a good one with a reasonable size and contents consistent with the ffp.

sorry, I know this is in the wrong thread.

Seems pretty poor that you have to repeat the process a number of times before it works correctly.
