Urgent jb3 question....

So my battery died while I was recoding and now I can't find what I was recording when it died....Is it gone forever? I guess the Jb3 doesn't process and save before the battery dies and the machine shuts down. DAMN. Does anyone have a good suggestion for replacing the JB3? The battery is dying out and I need a new way to go. There are so many things I love about the JB3 but I'm ready to find something comprable that is still supported and manufactured. Thanks.

Re: Urgent jb3 question....

Ok, thanks I looked at all of these does anyone have any suggestions on which to go with? Also, I'm still crying about loosing my recording because the battery died. Is it really gone forever? I'm confused about how it could tape stuff and not save as it goes.

Re: Urgent jb3 question....

never used a JB3, so i can't help you there unfortunately...if no one responds in the next day or so, ya might try over at taperssection.com [there's alot of folks who use the JB3 there]

as for which of 3 mentioned above, i'd go with the PMD660 with the Advanced Concert MOD
http://www.oade.com/digital_recorder...D-660MODS.html

quality gear, XLR in's, excellent preamps with that mod, ultra quiet...i use a modded PMD671 and have never been happier

Re: Urgent jb3 question....

got a couple JB3's here. And you are correct, if the battery dies while recording it does not save the file. Sorry bud, you're out of luck.

A. Thank You
B. Son Of A Bitch - I just lost the best concert I have ever taped. I'm going to go throw my jb3 off the roof so I won't be needing that battery, thanks though.

Re: Urgent jb3 question....

Ok so if I'm currently running . AT853rx>UA-5>jb3

The PMD-660 will replace the JB3 nicely? I want something with optical in (I think) I also want to be able to record for at least 3hr. with wav. files. It would be nice if it saved the file as it recorded in case the battery dies. I want to be able to easily transfer the file to my computer. I'm confused how this thing runs 48v phantom power on two AA bateries and still runs the recorder. I mean I'm still going to need the UA-5 with this thing right? Thanks again friends,

Brian

Re: Urgent jb3 question....

[180] If I run out of power will the NJB3 shut down gracefully, saving my recording?

Running on internal power, the NJB3 may shut down gracefully, saving your recording. Then again, it may not. Users have reported mixed results iwth auto-saving the recording when the internal battery dies. Running external power, it will not save your recording.

Taken from tapersection.com FAQ.

If you get rid of you JB3 please don't throw it away. I'd love to get one and will gladly pay shipping if you are that serious about it.

Re: Urgent jb3 question....

I'm not THAT serious about it. I need to get up enough money to buy something new anyway and that could take years. Thanks for the info though. I knew I had run out of battery before and it did save it. What a bad draw I got. SHIT!!!

it runs on 4 AA batteries, and supposedly can get ~4 hrs of record time [i'd say 3-3.5 would be more accurate]...you can always get external battery packs for it tho for increased times

as for amount of record time on the media, depends on the size of the CF card...i can get approx 6 hours on a 4GB card @ 16/44.1

as for the UA-5, don't need it...never use mine with my PMD671, especially if you get it modded...here's some more info:
http://www.d-mpro.com/users/folder.asp?FolderID=3629

if you want a cheaper recorder and use the UA-5 as yer pre's, you could get the MicroTrack or even the R09

Re: Urgent jb3 question....

So would you recomend the 671 over the 660. What are the advantages. Where would you suggest buying one and getting the mod? Thanks so much, you have been really helpful. I appreciate it.

Thanks

Re: Urgent jb3 question....

it depends, i would go with 671 over the 660 *unless* you're gonna be stealthing much [the 671 is a good bit larger and would be alot tougher to sneak in etc]...one reason for the 671 being you can record in 16- or 24-bit, and up to 96kHz, which for a portabe field recorder, is incredibly high quality...the downside is it'll cost ya about twice as much

http://www.oade.com/digital_recorder...s/PMD-660.html
http://www.oade.com/digital_recorder...s/PMD-671.html

as far as modded machines, Doug Oade is the man to talk to...excellent work, very nice guy to talk to, and great prices...you can compare the two at his site [click on "upgrades' from the links above to see the mods he can do]...the type of mod you choose might be affected by the mics you use, thats something you can actually talk with Doug about and he'll help ya...

for me, i would personally get the Advanced Concert MOD [$709 for the 660, and $1249 for the 671]

fwiw, prices on stock PMDs are currently around $499 for the 660, and $999 for the 671
