Why remove md5 before burning DVDs?

I have a dumb-ass newb question. I've noticed on a lot of DVD posts it says to remove the md5 before burning. Why and what happens if you don't? Thanks.

Re: Why remove md5 before burning DVDs?

put the md5 and txt and artwork in an "EXTRAS_TS" folder. works in most DVD players (except old toshiba). either that or keep it someplace safe on your drive or something.

Thanks for this info.
I was unaware that you could keep important info like this on a playable DVD disc.
I'll give it a go & see what happens
