16bit vs. 24 bit
What is the difference and do you need special software for the 24bit? Sorry if this has been covered before.

Re: 16bit vs. 24 bit
Thanks. So, bottom line, can I decode the FLAC file and import into I-Tunes? Or, is this not possible?
I will burn to disk in the future. No members have liked this post.

Re: 16bit vs. 24 bit
playback on the computer hooked to your stereo is a good option
rockbox firmware (rockbox.org) can play 24bit or 16bit on an iPod, no iTunes or decoding necessary if you're using standard iTunes you options are very limited... import it to iTunes as wav, transcode to apple lossless, or transcode to aac or mp3 or whatever and listen to a proxy. edit: and yeah, like wolf says its kinda ridiculous to download 24bit which is higher quality than redbook cds then discard 90% of the file by converting to mp3

Re: 16bit vs. 24 bit
Your iPod can most likely play 24-bit wav files (if you have a newer iPod), but if you are going to then connect your iPod to your car stereo, the car stereo may not play those 24-bit files. I am assuming you are talking about importing your 24-bit wav files to your iPod, not converting them to mp3 as suggested above.

Re: 16bit vs. 24 bit
if the iPod can play 24bit, then the car stereo will be fine with it!
don't listen to crappy mp3 we built this site to give better audio than the run of the mill stuff you find around

Re: 16bit vs. 24 bit
This is straying slightly from the topic, but, would it be very impractical to author my DVD's with 24 bit audio? I tested it out on my PC, laptop, and Blu-Ray recently and had no problems. I typically record external audio at 24/48 or 24/96. If skipping the downsample is an option, it's what I want to go with. However, I don't want the DVD to be impossible for the majority of downloaders to play.

Re: 16bit vs. 24 bit
I understand the whole idea of throwing 90% away, don't get me wrong. My question is for the time being, to listen, can I convert the FLAC to wav, import into I-Tunes and convert to AAC. You all said yes, and I appreciate it. FLAC frontend will do this (concert the 24bit to wav?)

Re: 16bit vs. 24 bit
iTunes can't play FLAC ... try getting a better media player! I recommend foobar2000

Re: 16bit vs. 24 bit
They should go in as wav files, not flac.
