Re: Still Firewalled

Is being Firewalled a new problem for you? If so, what changed? New computer? New modem? Also mention what operating system you're using, because I could maybe help with Windows 7 but I know nothing about 8 or 10.

Nothing has changed. This seems to be an on and off problem. It will work good for a bit then stop working. Yes, Im using Windows 7 Home Premium.

Re: Still Firewalled

I have a Motorola SBG6580 router, using Utorrent 2.2.1 and Microsoft Security Essentials.

Re: Still Firewalled

I had that problem and it had something to do with an IP address changing. I think it was the router. I had to go in and click something to stop it from happening. Not real helpful, I know, but this was a while ago. Also, I’m on an IMac.

Re: Still Firewalled

Speaking of being firewalled, when trying to port forward with OpenVPN and a local router, for the local IP Address, do you use the IP address of the VPN provider, the router, or the computer? I assume the port is the port listed on the bittorrent client. Thanks to anyone who can help!

Re: Still Firewalled

Whatever port uTorrent is using will need to be used when you forward the ports on your router. Take a moment and check because sometimes computers do strange things when we're not looking. Does the port # match on uTorrent and on your router? Seems simple, but that's my first suggestion.

I had to go the static IP road for a long time. But, it shouldn't really be necessary to get a green light (lower right corner).

I'm sure someone here can offer wisdom on firewalls. That's out of my wheelhouse. Good luck!

edit
P.S. To see if a port is blocked or not, goto http://www.canyouseeme.org and type in whatever port you have you bitclient set to use (most come with 6881 starting as default) then press Check

If it reads Success! then most likely that port is open to traffic... if you get Error!... proceed to http://www.portforward.com to continue to open ports.

Re: Still Firewalled

Thanks very much for responding. On my router's login page, I have forwarded the same port as the one listed on my bittorrent client's preferences. However, both the bittorrent client and canyouseeme.org show that port as being closed. I even changed bittorrent clients a few times to see if that mattered; it didn't. I believe the issue is that the router can't open a port on the VPN (OpenVPN) server. Don't know if there is a way around this when using VPN, unless the VPN provider allows port forwarding (they don't). I have tried using the computer's IP address, the router's IP address, and the IP address from the VPN server, all without success.
