the best way to dither
My audio editing program of choice is Adobe Audition 1.5. Now that I'm recording 24-bit files with my MicroTrack, I'm having to dither down for when I want to burn a show for someone or put it up for download.
Here's my current setup ![]() Converting the Sample Rate is easy enough, as I've seen the preferred methods for the sample rate on numerous shows. And the resolution is a no-brainer. But I don't really know what I should be doing with the dithering. What should I be setting the Dither Depth (bits) to? It goes all the way up to 99. Not sure why I picked 16. ![]() I don't even know what 'p.d.f.' stands for. I remember hearing somewhere that when dithering, Triangle was the best way to go about it. Is that true, or should I be using one of the other methods? ![]() And what of noise shaping? Is that generally a bad idea, or is there an appropriate time to utilize that? Thanks in advance for any help. No members have liked this post.

Re: the best way to dither
16 seems right
give a careful listen to the different settings where the music volmue drops & boosts and choose the one which sounds the best to you. you should be able to get a more technical & detailed answer at the am forum

Re: the best way to dither
Aye, thanks to both. The Am forum is dense with information (most of which is beyond my very basic understanding of audio), but I was able to find some useful recommendations on there.
