Re: ABC client set up
I liked ABC.... but I think it is somewhat limited by todays standards of clients in terms of features. I also found it to be a little buggy.
If you're not too far into it already, I'd suggest µTorrent. It is a C++ based client like bitcomet and will run circles around java crap like azureus. It is very fast and runs with very little system resources. http://www.utorrent.com/ you shouldn't have to deal with local ip/ outside ip/ passive etc... unless you're behind a firewall. all those defaults are fine..... and the info is the same no matter what client you are using ABC, Azureus, etc... so come on now gsmyth79.

Re: ABC client set up
are you using a software firewall? like norton internet security, or zonealarm?
I would reccommend turning off Windows Firewall if you are. Are you behind a router???? If you are you will have to forward the specific ports through the router. Each torrent program uses different ports, usually. For ABC above, you'd forward port 58310 (from above). Some programs use a range of ports some only use one. Tornado uses 6991-6889 I think. It looks like ABC only uses one like Azureus.

Re: ABC client set up
I use ABC (3.1) without problems (I am going to try uTorrent though). I have my ports forwarded to 6881.

Re: ABC client set up
hmmm... that's odd. I didn't have that experience. I suppose you could use a packet sniffer / snort and find out what's going on. What torrent client are you using now? I assume it has different behavior. Maybe it's checking for permissions to DHT? I do know that µTorrent is spyware free. Let me know what you find out. I'm curious.

Re: ABC client set up
I have switched to uTorrent. ABC served me well, but uTorrent rocks! I am using Windows ME (Sucks!) and have Norton Firewall/NAV. I have set it up with out the problem you described.
Keep trying, uTorrent is worth it. Horace

I've only had this happen when I've actually started up a torrent on other clients, not when I simply open the program. I kept permitting the connections without setting a rule for it and it just wouldn't stop. I'm using ABC now, and I used to use Azureus. No members have liked this post.
