Question Anyone here use longer than cd media?

I've noticed on more and more torrents people are setting them up for longer than cd media. I tried to put a show onto a dvd, but I use Nero and it looks like my only options are to make a WMA dvd or to make a data dvd. I burned a data dvd of .wav files to see if that would work, but my dvd player wouldn't read the disc (and it reads everything). I'd like to put some shows onto dvd since they're about the same price as blank cd's, but I don't want to have to encode all of my music into WMA format to do that.
