Re: BEST rechargable batteries ? ? ?

I'm just a ghettocheap Edirol/Tascam handheld guy who's looking for some good rechargable AA's that will last for up to 4 hours.

the Edirol doesn't eat the power as fast as the Tascam does, and Duracells seem to give me 30m extra over Energizers, and most other non-rechargables seem to last even less.

the new hi-end AA's by Duracell/Energizer last a LOT longer, problem is there's no way to quantify how long they last/how much juice is still left after a use. those are GREAT for festivals, I got 6+ hours out of 1 set and it was still at half-power.

I'd just like to switch over is all, I'm a stealther, not a mic-stander.

Re: BEST rechargable batteries ? ? ?

I've only used Energizer as a rechargeable in a recorder, and 2 AA's last a good 10 hrs in the PCM M10, brand new of course.

I've used Radioshack rechargeables in cameras for years with no issues but that's a different story

I recommend Sanyo Eneloops. They hold their charge for a long time, which means you can keep them in storage for significantly longer than other batteries.

Re: BEST rechargable batteries ? ? ?

Eneloops from Sanyo are the best...

After that, get the Maha MC-C800S charger. It will charge AA and AAA batteries. The best part about it is that it will soft charge them, but it also does a recycle charge where it will charge and decharge them a few times to erase the charge memory in them to bring them back to new again and give you the best possible battery life.

Re: BEST rechargable batteries ? ? ?

There's a whole section on the forum at Tapers' Section devoted to this very topic. One thing I've noticed in my PMD660 is that battery life is shorter when recording music than when doing a test in a comparitively silent space.

Re: BEST rechargable batteries ? ? ?

That is because the processor for the A/D conversion is working much harder.

You will find my same recommendation in the tapers section. I would have linked to it, but I couldn't remember where I posted it.

Thanks Splumer

Re: BEST rechargable batteries ? ? ?

I use and recommend Eneloop. I did some initial testing when I got my recorders (18 mths apart) and this was the general result after at least a dozen tests on both recorders:

Edirol R09 HR - 16gb SD Card.

Fresh batteries, Continuous recording.

16/44.1 = 7hrs 20 min

24/48 = 7hrs 15 min

24/96 = 5hrs 45 min

Tascam DR2d - 16Gb SD Card.

Fresh batteries, Continuous recording.

16/44.1 = 6hrs 45 min

24/48 = 6hrs 10 min

24/96 = 5hrs 25 min

Note: The "continuous" recording was based on just sitting the recorder on the mantle and letting it run 'till auto off (when battery ran out).

As uni-fi points out, recording a quiet room is different to a gig, but I definitely get 5 hrs at hi-res every time.

Two things to remember with rechargables -

1. Use a fresh set every time!
2. After you've transferred the files from the SD, quick format the card, in the recorder, and run the recorder to use up what power remains in the batteries 'till they're dead - then recharge!

I'm banned from there, which is probably a good thing.
