Weird structures

This is a BBC radio 1 session. Not really a CO visible. And it has these weird structures in the 'noise zone'. But the response doesn't seem to be touched by them. And FA seems to ignore them but doesn't cut hard. So, not really sure what to make of this.

Ah well, that's the other problem.

Maybe a silly question. Sorry. But these structures on top in the 2 sec SA aren't suspicious? Ran into several shows lately which showed them. And to me they look at least a little like MD structures. But don't think this could be a MD. No damage visible and no hard CO, too.

Re: Weird structures

yeah, in the closeup sa it looks like a whole lot of faint hyphens... that's a little unnatural.

its not MD, at least not like any I've ever seen. usually it looks like 'type r' over here:

no, there's not every single variation of atrac there but its most of them.

maybe its some codec that hardly gets used, yamaha vqa or some crazy thing I'm not certain. can you post a sample? I'm wondering how it sounds, if its got that telltale swish. 10 or 20 seconds in flac upped to rapidshare/megaupload or whatever and post the link here would be great.

Re: Weird structures

it doesn't sound like a radio one broadcast, nor does it look anything like one. it does, however appear to be a broadcast (note the carrier at 19kHz) but with full frequency response, which I've seen on an ALD capture before.

this and the way its a little fuzzy-sounding with the vocals mixed way too high lead me to believe that this might be Polly's IEM (monitor mix). that's my best guess. There may not have been a bbc one broadcast of this at all... something worthy of further investigation.

IEM may be a good explanation for this. It really sounds strange.

Found out that I have a second version of this session. There was a date mismatch, so I didn't realize it before. It's a Peel session, to be correct.
FA doesn't look unusual on this one to me. Cuts a little early, below 15 khz. Stripe is a mess in the short SA. ... And faint hyphens are much clearer!
But Polly's voice sounds much more normal on this one.
