Flac & SHN archiving question
I'm new to seeding shows. I did check through the faq but didn't really get a complete answer. I have several shows in FLAC and SHN format backed up on CDR / DVDR. I am pretty sure that extracting FLAC files back to my HD from a CDR and then seeding from those files is OK because of the "self-check" fingerprints that are included in the file in order to decode. Comments? What about shn files? Is there a certain program you would recommend for burning and or extracting shn / flac files to ensure that the file sets remain pure prior to seeding? Sorry if this has been asked before. TIA,
Sean

Re: Flac & SHN archiving question
i archive all my lossless shows [flac/shn/etc] w/ all the checksums/info/art onto DVDRs...for trading or seeding, all you have to do is pop the disc in, Copy the show's folder to yer HD, and then either burn it to a blank disc for trading, or upload it to a tracker for seeding via BT...just remember to always include ALL of the files when trading/seeding.

Re: Flac & SHN archiving question
Also, to be clear, you're not extracting anything if you leave them as flac/shn files. You're simply copying them to another drive/media. So by burning them to disc or copying them from a disc to a drive you aren't altering the files in any way as long as they copy over fine. Then you use the md5, fingerprints or flac frontend to verify them so you know they came over intact.
Extracting is a term used more for getting files from a disc that is burned as audio. That's pretty much a no-no since you can introduce diginoise into the files and there's usually a flac/shn source already being circulated. So if you've burned your files as an audio disc, the general rule is don't extract those for trading or seeding. No members have liked this post.

Re: Flac & SHN archiving question
Cool. I've done this twice now without verifying all the files. With flacs, my understanding is that it is not really necessary because they won't decode w/o the fingerprints. What about shns, what is the easiest program to deal with them? TIA

Re: Flac & SHN archiving question
ALG--Nero will burn flac files [it decodes-to-wav for you]...don't think it'll do shns tho [i could be wrong]...i always decode to wav using TLH first, as i trust its decoder more than i do Nero's on-the-fly...then load the wavs to Nero for burning to AudioCD
SEAN--Mamba said it best...TLH is the jernt MAMBA--whats a md4?!?! i hadn't run into one of those before No members have liked this post.

I can take it. Hell, I'm just glad it's not Monday anymore - last couple of Mondays have been shitty. Alg: You can do the samething with Foobar and I know it burns SHN directly to CD. Open all the files in order, select them all, right click, burn to disc and voila. No members have liked this post.
