Over burn
Please, could someone answer a question about -over burn- when burning a cdr of over the standard 80minutes? I have a burner with this capability, however, exactly -how- much can you safely over burn? 82minutes, less or even more, since there are 90minute cdrs? I just don't want to wreck my burner. Thank you for any help on this

Re: Over burn

there was some guy posting here a few months back who ruined two burners doing this, its just not worth it imo.

Re: Over burn
Overburning is relatively safe if you're burning 10 seconds or something like that, anything over half a minute and it's risky. In the end though since discs are very cheap, why take the risk of wrecking the drive.

Re: Over burn
Thanks for replying too. Can I ask what brand burner you use? I only know of Plextors allowing for overburn. I was just wondering on a side note if others allow it by chance? I'm also wondering if most burners are made by the same one or two Tiwanese or Chinese companies? Like vcr's back in the day.

Re: Over burn
You can do it with basically every burner, you just need to enable that in the options of your burning software. My computers have currently LG's and HP's burners, all are capable of overburning, even though I never do.

Re: Over burn
Yes, i am aware of the option in my burning software-Nero. I'll set it for 80:10, and no more.

Re: Over burn
Wow, I guess I've been lucky so far. I also have wondered how much overburn was OK.
I have a Lite-On DVD/CD burner and recently burned 82 minutes 15 seconds with no problem. Guess I'll watch that and not do that any again.

Re: Over burn
My burner will always overburn a few seconds (like under 30) just fine but one time I tried over 2 minutes just to see if it would work, and the disc was totally messed up. It crashed my computer while it was in the burner trying to finish and everytime I tried to put the disc in the computer it would crash it. The burner is just fine (thankfully) but the disc was junk.

Re: Over burn
I overburn by 2 minutes or a little more regularly with nero and have had no problems whatsoever.
