Play VIDEO_TS folder

Hi!

What's a good setup to play VIDEO_TS folders off a drive rather than burning an actual DVD. I know that VLC does that on the PC, but I'd like to watch on my TV rather than on the PC. The TV is a Samsung, so unfortunately no Android apps. (I believe Kodi on Android plays DVD folders with full DVD menu etc, just like VLC?).

I remember having a WD TV Live media player many years ago, and it could also play DVDs with full menus off an external HD.

Recently I purchased a used WD TV Live Gen 1, but it won't play DVD folders
Perhaps the WD TV Live I used to own was a Gen 3?

What are you using?
Any input on a working setup is very welcome.

Best regards,
\,,/inged

Re: Play VIDEO_TS folder

It can be any PC with HDMI output connector. Among freeware player the best is imo MPC BE as it handles correctly menus.

Re: Play VIDEO_TS folder

Thank you for your input!

Would you say MPC Classic is superior to VLC? And if so, why?

I haven't gotten HDMI to work properly in my setup. I do have a HDMI connection, but it seems choosing that as source on my TV gives me slightly inferior quality. Could be a PEBKAC issue, I know. :P

MPC is much compact and has all functions I need. So, rather matter of taste ;-) as both are based on the same decoders.

Standard setting of VLC and MPC should give a good picture. Never use "codec packs" as it's a mess. Only LAV filters are OK.
