I greedily dug myself in a hole before I got my firewall shit straight. But I've just posted a show and am on the verge of clawing my way up to 0.40. So perhaps for now I can hide amongst the mittel-leechers.

Re: Name & Shame Uberleechers Thread

Last week I tried to help out a couple of leeches on two separate torrents and after 2 days I checked their tracker and they each had over 20 torrents running. I sent a PM and asked them to stay on and seed after they get it, no reply. My torrent client could only give them about 30 seconds an hour of delivery because they had so much going on. I asked them to keep their torrents to about 5 total because the clients works best at about 2 dl and 3 ul, especially with their slow connections I gave them 24 hours to pause or stop most of their running torrents if they want to receive the seed.

And what do you know, they got it and split! Really ticked me off. On top of that someone else jumped on one of the torrents during this and I had to stay and help them seed.

I just noticed while writing this that I have two people wanting a seed from two of my uploads ~ one has a 0.32 ratio and 27 active torrents, the other has a guy with an 0.24 ration and 44 active torrents ~ these guys are going to be waiting a long time for me to want to jump in and help them!

Who knows how many other active torrents from other Trading sites they have open!

Zomb has a concept to increase ratio by donations, they run specials occasionally for every dollar you donate you get 2 gigs toward your ratio. Just an idea !

You know, Staff has talked a bit about this and we are unsure about exactly what to do. I've already gone and tried to cut back on the amount of shows you are allowed to seed at a time (it is set to ten), but if you were downloading and then become a seed, it won't 'kick' you off, so you can actually seed more than ten at a time as long as you keep the torrents going. Some people have HUGE connections and can handle ten, but most people don't do any good seeding ten at a time. It's tempting to lower this number even more, however a big part of me thinks the best thing to do is to educate these users. Some have been educated by coming to Technobabble and reading and asking questions, but unfortunately, the clueless remain clueless and never bother to try to learn.

I hate to say it, but when I've noticed someone who can only download at a really slow rate from me because they are downloading so many other things, I won't seed to them unless I have nothing else I need to seed.

So do several sites, but what does it really do? It makes the users ratio look good artificially. We make enough money in donations every month to pay our bills, so we've never had a need to start handing out 'gifts' for donating. We have considered adding a little note under the TTD Traders note that says something like TTD Contributor to show those that donate to the site.

Re: Name & Shame Uberleechers Thread

I'm a relative newb myself, but it didn't take long to realize that you're running in mud after too many torrents running and keeps getting deeper with every torrent added. I get about 200Kb's down and 90 Kb's up on average, and if I want to be ready to jump on something or upload a show I need to keep my total below 5 active ~ and let 'em seed through the night.

Doing less torrents lets the user get throughput, I now stop seeding when my ratio gets too high on a given torrent to give some other people with lower ratios have a chance.

well im pretty new here, only just got back and found the link again..
my ratio aint the best either but i try my best..
as for making it a rule for ratios then im all up for that, i am a member of many private trakers and some of the ratio requirmemnts are a little strict but that only meens when you see something you want months down the line there will still be seeders on it. all the sites i am on we are allowed to use the part seeding option.

That's not necessarily true, DIME typically has about a 3 day life span for torrents. They die very quickly there, after the initial feeding frenzy they get buried, unlike here where you can bump the thread and let people know it's still alive.

Ratios don't work to spread stuff, they just work to limit proliferation, which is counter to the boot-trading philosophy.

If it comes down to a matter of "majority rules" then you'll likely see TTD implement strict ratio enforcement (to the detriment of TTD.) If it's a matter of principle, then forget ratios, things work better when it's done in a spirit of sharing.

If you have in mind large number of seeders maybe it's true but most torrents last couple of months. Popular artists are seeded well above half year.

Also, he is a natural entertainer.

In the meantime, I'm all to achieve the VLAD II mark.
Thanks to a certain someone, which I won't mention here to preserve good internet manners (george esteves), who hanged two weeks getting this torrent, and bailed out as soon as he completed, I have confidence to reach the mark sooner.

george esteves, happy downloading!

Thanks to you, too paule1 for joining the fun. I've learned a lot from your comments.

Actually, I think you are right. I just went to the test site which has stats from the beginning of November and it says "Downloaded: 1.29 TB Uploaded: 981.72 GB Ratio: 0.74" I'll send them a PM asking about their client.

Definitely a poorly thought out post for someone who KNOWs what the"MAN" looks like........yeesh. Maybe try putting down the pipe BEFORE you make a post that smells of idiocy.

Actually in late '89 or '90 at Dead shows the "MAN", as you put it, started using groups of frat guys to buy drugs or find people to smoke pot with. These kids that seemed to just be there parting would inform a near by group of narcs who would then make an arrest. I know this because I saw it happen. No pipes involved. So maybe you shouldn't post about things that you don't know about so YOUR IDIOCY isn't apparent to the world.

BTW: Haters suck. That's the only reason I responded to assTarget"s post.

Re: Name & Shame Uberleechers Thread

ep620,

If you hadn't noticed...it's 2007, not '89 or '90. Most "Dead" fans I know smoke pot, have families and a good job to boot, and they DON'T waste their time looking for "frat guys" or "narcs" because they are too busy enjoying the show. And I can't be a "hater" because I used to enjoy smoking pot quite a bit, I probably still would be if my job didn't require regular whiz quizzes and background checks, it was my choice to make a life change and I don't regret it....but I certainly do dream every so often about rollin one and going on a road trip just because I can.

We knew how to respect ourselves and others while still having fun....too bad you didn't seem to have the same chance...maybe you wouldn't resemble what you liken others to. It's just the internet, it's just another post in another thread.....time to move on man, the moment's gone.

I thought we were talking about the past. I'm not looking for narcs to jump out of bushes. Life is very different now with the job, daughter, etc.

I wasn't calling you a hater. I was talking about target.

This is a nice daydream on occasion.

Old school baby. I had fun along the way and I'm glad I got to see shows with older heads (mid '80s). Shit got too heavy in the early '90s. I saw too many of my friends go to jail over slimy shit the cops pulled. So I jumped ship before it happened to me.

Yea. I know. Target's statements are just more internet stupidity. I can joke about hippies (myself included) and I know when someone else is joking. He's not. Ignorant people bother me.

Re: Name & Shame Uberleechers Thread

I'm glad you realise I am not taking anything out on you.....I, myself, am a love child...born right at the end of an era and a movement that still thrives to this day. I never forget that....and I am glad you and I are on good terms and not some crazy out of control rant that leads nowhere.

Daydreams are planned activity for retirement.....lmao!!!!

Has this thread turned into a random pictures thread when I wasn't looking?

Lynne, it's much more fun than being mean to people for leeching.
