Lastly, the kind of a specialized forum where links are in the open like Guitars101. (In any case, as long as certain popular upload sites are used, it's even possible to upload to them without logging to the said upoad sites.) So there are at least four different models for a new site.
everybody knows this. whats the point?

I found some perfectly working links there, did not count, but 1 upload is in place.

The point is, there are sites, there are running sites, so in the case TTD ceases to exist, there still are ways to upload and download music. You said yourself that not everybody knows about G101.

It is beyond saving. I tried to use an alternate power source but the files are all corrupted. I gave it to a friend who is an old school IT guy and he couldn't do anything with it either. It is my fault for constantly putting off transferring them to a newer drive. Stupid poetic justice that it would be the ones that can't be replaced

Thanks for asking though

You have certainly earned the right to spend your time listening to and enjoying music without concerning yourselves with the never ending details of its distribution.

On an equally sad note I just discovered that a hard drive issue wiped out all my beloved Neko Case recordings that I downloaded from here. I will never be able to get them back as they seem to have been consigned to dead torrent land. Oy. it's always something.....
That's why I burn all my music to CD's. I've heard so many people comment over the years that they lost all their music to hard drive crashes. Put your music to CD's, then you won't have that problem.

Theoretically that would be possible, then I would have to burn 50,000 CDs + X, but I would reach my limits when storing these CDs, my room here in the nursing home is only about 4 by 4 meters and is already so overcrowded that the nurses complain that they can hardly look after me properly ...

CD's often deteriorate over time and become unplayable. I use hard drives but keep a backup clone of each drive in case one fails. Plus there is always cloud storage!

If it's important irreplaceable documents, I have one master drive and two back up drives. I haven't done it in a while, but I used to also burn blu-rays as another layer of back up and keep them all in a fire proof safe.

I've heard about CD's deteriorating over the years but I'm happy to say that I've never had one go bad on me. And I've had them since 1987. Only time one went bad was when I dropped one getting out of my car & it hit the asphalt driveway & got scratched. I still have hundreds of cassette tapes that still play. I guess it all boils down to how you store your music, whether it be be vinyl, tapes or CD's.

I do a decent job of storage and I have never had a CD die on me.

At this point, I would use hard drives only as backups to discs.
