Re: Freeware .flac file player for Win XP ???
If you want to use Windows Media Player as your FLAC player, then all you need to do is download a DirectShow codec for FLAC.
You can get it from here: http://www.illiminable.com/ogg/oggcodecs_0.71.0946.exe More info can be found here: http://www.illiminable.com/ogg/ All you do is install the .exe file and then Windows Media Player will be able to play FLAC files (as well as a number of other codecs). You might need to create a file association in Windows Explorer so that when you click on a .flac file Windows Media Player automatically opens the file but that's easy to do. Re: Freeware .flac file player for Win XP ???
Foobar is what I use.
Quote from Foobar site "Audio formats supported natively: MP1, MP2, MP3, MP4, MPC, AAC, Ogg Vorbis, FLAC / Ogg FLAC, WavPack, WAV, AIFF, AU, SND, CDDA, WMA. More audio formats supported through optional components, official or third-party. " Get it here: http://www.foobar2000.org/ Don't know of any .flac only players. Re: Freeware .flac file player for Win XP ???
I help out with a new open source player called Tuniac. It's iTunes inspired mostly, but very lossless friendly. It supports FLAC, mp3, m4a/mp4/3gp(aac), ogg, ape, mpc, wv, tta, ofs/ofr, alac.

Don't see the iTunes design in it. Actually, what is it with open source and ugliness.

Re: Freeware .flac file player for Win XP ???
Are you suggesting that you prefer form over functionality? The reason open-source tends to not look as good as pay software is that pay software usually has a team of people that can work 40+ hours per week on a single aspect of the software, be it interface, back-end, plugins, whatever. Open-source usually has a handful of people writing what they are most interested in themselves in whatever spare time they have outside of a real job.
Tuniac however, does have plans to improve the interface, we just value function first. Right now the lead coder is pretty swamped so not much is being done, but the next phase of the project is when interface work will begin. For now, however, its a lightweight, functional player, that emulates iTunes, and supports a large variety of formats. And for those of you in 64 bit environments Tuniac is one of the few 64bit players that support these lossless formats. PS: the screen-shot on sourceforge is pretty out of date.
