GSpot says: Parameter Incorrect

Got five discs in a trade, four of the five I cannot copy. Get the same message when I run them through G Spot. DVDShrink crashes when I try to copy them. Guess they got errors?

Any idea how this is caused?

Thanks in advance.

The discs are Sony and Verbatim, and were burned at low speed.

Re: GSpot says: Parameter Incorrect

stick them in a proper DVD player and watch them for errors.

copy the folders directly from disc to the hard drive, then burn a second copy

..not sure why you're using DVDShrink..

Ask the person your traded with to make md5s of his DVDs and send you the file. Then check if your DVDs actually have the same md5s.

How can I copy the discs if DVD Shrink closes? I haven't tried Decrypter yet, but if Gspot can't read the VOBs from the disc I think it's pointless.

no no no.. dig this.. you'll love it.

you can insert a DVD > open the disc to see the files >

drag the VIDEO_TS to the desktop > burn another copy directly from that folder.

no software or decrypting is needed. give it a try

you have a good point about GSpot not reading the .vob files
.. but what the hell.. have Gspot check them from the desktop folder instead of from the DVD disc.

we are shooting in the dark here for you..so expect some random thoughts to try.

Thanks for the tip, didn't work though.

Dragged the folder, it started to copy to desktop, said it would take 14 minutes, then halfway it stopped and I got the same error message, parameter incorrect.

Sure. You should always do that prior to seeding a DVD (if you seed video). Just open up the md5 application (TLH?) and drag the files in the VIDEO_TS into the application and ask it to make md5s.

I've seeded DVDs and made checksums but from TS folders, after I ripped them to the hard drive.

These discs cannot be ripped, or even read by Gspot, that's the problem, and I'm trying to figure out what happened.

The trader said these are copies from his masters, and he has copied his masters before without problems, so the problem must be the burning this time around.

I got into the habit a long time ago to make md5s of the VIDEO_TS on the DVD prior to copying it to my harddrive. Then I run the md5s again the files that were copied to my harddrive to verify the copy went OK. I'm not sure that it is necessary now since if there is a problem with the file, then it simply won't copy. But, I continue doing it.

Anyway, you should be able to make an md5 of the VIDEO_TS folder that is on the DVD by using whatever application you like to use to make md5s. You use the same process you would normally use only the files happen to be on the DVD instead of the harddrive. I'm just thinking if you do this, and you get him to make md5s of the files he has, then you can verify that you have an exact copy of what he has. If so, and he was able to copy the files, then we know it is most likely a problem on your end. If the md5s don't match, then we know that he made a mistake in copying the DVDs for you.

Thanks for your help;

I emailed and asked the trader to send md5s.

Now...at the risk of sounding DUMB...what do I compare? The letters and numbers on each line? If there are errors on the disc, would the md5s file say"such and such error occurred"?

No question is a dumb question!

You can open the checksums in any text editor and then compare the "letters and numbers" (the checksum). They should be exactly the same if the video was copied correctly. The only exception is the checksum for the menus - VIDEO_TS.bup, VIDEO_TS.ifo, VIDEO_TS.vob. Sometimes the software will 'correct' the menu and so the checksums won't match. But, all the VTS_0x_x files should have *exactly* the same checksum if the video was copied correctly.

Do the discs play in your player?

Try taking the discs to a friend who has a burner. See if they can get the VTS folder to drag/drop to their hard drive.
