the best way to dither
My audio editing program of choice is Adobe Audition 1.5. Now that I'm recording 24-bit files with my MicroTrack, I'm having to dither down for when I want to burn a show for someone or put it up for download.
Here's my current setup Converting the Sample Rate is easy enough, as I've seen the preferred methods for the sample rate on numerous shows. And the resolution is a no-brainer. But I don't really know what I should be doing with the dithering. What should I be setting the Dither Depth (bits) to? It goes all the way up to 99. Not sure why I picked 16. I don't even know what 'p.d.f.' stands for. I remember hearing somewhere that when dithering, Triangle was the best way to go about it. Is that true, or should I be using one of the other methods? And what of noise shaping? Is that generally a bad idea, or is there an appropriate time to utilize that? Thanks in advance for any help. No members have liked this post.

Re: the best way to dither
16 seems right
give a careful listen to the different settings where the music volmue drops & boosts and choose the one which sounds the best to you. you should be able to get a more technical & detailed answer at the am forum

Re: the best way to dither
Aye, thanks to both. The Am forum is dense with information (most of which is beyond my very basic understanding of audio), but I was able to find some useful recommendations on there.
