I've never had a problem with a verbatim and I use Nero also, at 5 years old I would guess your burner might need replacing - look on places like newegg, should be able to get one well under $50

you can split the dvd9 into two dvd5's with DVD Shrink in reauthor mode. you'll lose the menu, but you'll keep 100% of the quality.
