PORT FORWARDING HELP

Hello, I need help with port forwarding.
I am using PC Tools Firewall Plus. My computer runs on Micro XP with service pack 3 and is hooked up to a Linksys WRT54G wireless router so tha my laptop can run too. I use Azureus 2.5.0

I want to port forward so that I can download and upload bit torrents.I am a total computer dummy and need very SIMPLE instructive steps to learn how to Port Forward.
I do not have a vbig problem with downloading but my upload speed is usually under 10 when it should be around 110 .
Can some kind person walk me through this. Thanks in advance

Re: PORT FORWARDING HELP

If I can do this, then so can you - just hang in there.

Quote:
1. The first thing I did was to set up a static IP. I trust you that you got that part covered. I used this site to steer me http://www.portforward.com/networking/staticip.htm

2. Be sure to open up the firewall. http://gruven42.webhop.org/xpfwbt/xp_firewall_bt.htm

3. Regarding port forwarding on my router, I discovered that I would need the DNS Server # from my ip... so, I called them. Once I had those numbers, I was good to go. However; you might try to find the DNS Numbers on your own before calling your ip.

4. Don’t forget to force encryption (my client is Utorrent, does your client have this option)?

5. Choose an optimal port number ... something in the 40000 or 50000 range ... after you plug it into your router settings and save , make sure the port is enabled in the xp firewall, and then make sure your torrent client has the same port as windows and the router . All 3 should have the same port enabled .
I am quoting myself here-lol! I am still a newbie by comparison to some others here. This may not be the only way to set things up, but it worked for me (I have XP and the same linksys router as you).

I will look around for step by step for setting up your router (now where is that thread?). Peace

Re: PORT FORWARDING HELP

Cicada, Thanks for your reply. Questions ???
The link posted in paragraph two doesn't work.

DNS Server # from my ip... HUH?? Sorry bu I really am a dummy. I don't know what a DNS Server # is and (gasp) what is an IP? Is that Internet provoder?? Like Optimum (Cablevision) ot is it AOL (which I use.)

Don’t forget to force encryption . OK another thing I have no idea what that means.

Thanks again and HELP!!!

Re: PORT FORWARDING HELP

Sry about the dead link above. Since you have Azureus & WRT54G... this is the page with detailed instructions (did you get this far, yet). Here is the link.
http://www.portforward.com/english/r...4G/Azureus.htm

Let us know how this goes, ok?

Re: PORT FORWARDING HELP

IP: Internet Provider (I have a local cable company)
Encryption (optional, but recommended): Located in Azureus preferences (somewhere).
DNS: When you go to set up your router, you will see it. You might not need it, but I did.

Try the instructions in the link above, ok? Keep asking questions until you are "green".
