What he said. You have a common disease that likes to pretend it is helping when it really a very clever spam to get your credit card info.

Re: Popups and other Help needed AGAIN

I would remove the virus that they are alerting you of would be my suggestion. I would also suggest removing one or both of the antivirus programs as windows defender does a fine job of catching them. I would also be skeptical of whatever site you attempted to purchase from as that seems to be where it came from in the first place.

Having more than one antivirus at the time is asking for trouble. Stay with Windows Defender, delete the rest.

Also, download this - https://www.kaspersky.co.uk/downloads/free-rescue-disk

Follow install instructions (link below "download" button), but do all that (download and install on usb drive) on the other, unaffected computer. After that, boot your affected computer from that very usb drive and let it do the job.

Re: Popups and other Help needed AGAIN

thanks for the help. i'm over the denial part as of yesterday. i guess you guys need a bigger hammer to get my attention.

i had defender turned off and for some reason my firewall was off (probaby because i was using that machine to share some torrents.)
i ran both mcaffee and defender on that infected machine and they both came back and said i was okay, but those infernal popups persisted, albeit at a slower pace.
i haven't checked today as yet.

Joujoujou: do i need to turn off my antivirus programs on the infected machine before i try the kaspersky rescue? i guess i will find out from them...?

i used your link and it sez that kaspersky freebie is unavailable to USA users (i may have subscribed to them once upon a time but not presently).
guess i'll get over to mcafee and see what i can do. i think i've been through this before... but not on that machine, its my newest one
