Re: New audio torrent rule, no remasters unless by specific permission
What about editing?
I've had many shows that needed some sort of work done I actually went through all my Pogues shows during lockdown & removed bumps & thumps etc As well as leveling channels on quite a lot of them Surely that wouldn't be classed as a remaster? It would be nice to know before I posted any as it would say in the info file Lockdown edits No members have liked this post.

Re: New audio torrent rule, no remasters unless by specific permission
This was an interesting read. As someone who has digitized thousands of tapes, I have rarely had an interest in things being remastered. And when I have no way would I want to do it because I am not a professional. I think if your going to have historic recordings remastered they should only be done by trained professionals not Tom, Dick, or Harry sitting at home using some software. If people want to alter a recording to the way they think it should sound better thats fine but keep it for yourself and don't put it online. It also dilutes the trading and history of recording adding yet another version of that recording. Ive seen people do and release multiple remasters of the same thing.

Re: New audio torrent rule, no remasters unless by specific permission
yeah I've had ppl do that to my audios and videos then change the txt files and try to claim em i flamed em and told em where to go with that shit..and i hardly seed or share anymore because of it. and ppl like chris hazard doing the same in the video world re mastering and editing peoples files then putting them up to 4k from 1080p masters and trying to act like he did something good for the archives LOL

Re: New audio torrent rule, no remasters unless by specific permission
Lots of people want to "remaster" without having access to the original raw files. Ridiculous.

Re: New audio torrent rule, no remasters unless by specific permission
I had a guy just this week remaster one of my recent uploads. When I asked him why he said because the levels were so low in spots. I said it was called dynamic range, some songs were played quieter than others. What a fucking wanker.

Re: New audio torrent rule, no remasters unless by specific permission
I know it's a Freezer joke, but it is pretty easy to do some spectral editing with iZotope RX to manually get rid of lots of unwanted noises without really cutting into the music coming from the stage. It would be nice eventually for some kind of A.I. concert recording cleaner but I really don't think it's up to the level of accuracy I'd like to hear from it. It's a much slower process to manually do all that photoshop for sound spectral editing but the results can be quite an improvement, and very satisfying knowing that humans were involved in the process and not A.i.!!! haha
The key is having consent. If I posted something with some obvious flaws that someone else was able to fix, I would be alright with that, but I would want to be asked before that random fixed version was dumped into the trade pool. Depending what the bedroom remasterer is doing, it can be quite useless, as in Dennis' case of "...I compressed the crap out of it to fix it for you...", and if asked would have been told so, I'm sure. There are some cases though, where some serious fixing and remixing would truly help, but again, asking the taper or original sharer is paramount. Email someone, send a PM - something! Reach out if you're going to do this stuff, people! It could be a welcomed thing if you're doing something worthwhile (speed correction, clap whistle and talker removal, stem extraction remixing, etc...) but without express confirmation of authorization, your work shouldn't be posted... Having said all that, imagine, one day, an A.I. bootleg fix-up tool that would clean up all the screamers and talkers near the taper, extract the room reverb echo of a bad taping seat in the arena, and virtually move the mics into the sweet spot of the room to take all those fair to poor audience tapes and make them all sound like they were professionally recorded from the board. There will be a revolution in audience tapes in time, I am sure... Fingers crossed! But not yet.
