Re: best HD camcorder avail. now?
You need to give a price point. We could sit here all day and quote things like Red One HD cameras...The camera body kit is about $10K and the three lens Carl Zeiss set is about $66K...but I am sure that is not what you are looking for.
Narrow it down and we can make a few good suggestions.

i'm not personally familiar with any of the cams in that price range, but i know a lot of tapers have been using Canon's HV line [HV30 or HV40], which you should be able to find around that price...and what i've seen shot with one of those lil GoPro's looks great given its size/price, might be an option camcorderinfo.com is a great site for reviews, i'd research there before making any definite decisions ![]() No members have liked this post.

Re: best HD camcorder avail. now?
I use a Sony, HDR CX-190. It ranges in price between $279 and $350 depending who has it. If you aren't in a hurry, Best Buy will have a sale for them and you can get one for around $200. My original camera was and HDR CX160 which got lost in the fire, and they do not make that particular camera anymore. The differences that I have noted between the 190 and the 160 is that the 160 had 16 gb internal memory and a greater zoom than the 190. The 190 has no internal memory. The one modification no matter what camera you get, is to purchase a larger battery than the one that comes with. If you are shooting video with the audio the battery life is cut in half.

Re: best HD camcorder avail. now?
I use a Canon HV30, and have used the HV40 as well. Both are tape based, so you'd have to transfer in real time. Both have a lot of manual control, or you can use the Cinema mode which looks really nice, too. Panasonic also has some amazing cameras. As AAR.oner said, camcorderinfo.com is an awesome resource to research cameras.

Re: best HD camcorder avail. now?
although not exactly in the OPs price range, thats pretty sweet!
wonder if it'll be able to handle continuous shooting, or how many cams end up spontaneously combusting ![]() No members have liked this post.
