MMW Lossy? And a possible curveball.
I downloaded a 1994 MMW show from Dime the other day. Fired it up this evening and it sounded a bit off so I decided to check it out.
At first glance it looks reasonable, I guess, but zooming in makes me wonder. That sort of dead area between 12-15 and the weird spikes, and the stripe at about 12. And here's the curveball. This recording was made with 2 (I assume because it's stereo) Shure SM57s. Dynamic mics, not used for taping. Looking at the mic specs, I found that it only handles frequencies up to 15khz. Did I answer my own question? Thanks guys. No members have liked this post.

Re: MMW Lossy? And a possible curveball.
well this doesn't look lossy
the cutoff might look suspect from a distance but zoomed in everything is kosher most shows are recorded with condensors, so the frequency response of a dynamic mic like a 57 looks a little different than most. It is probably mono with only one 57 (I'm guessing) L&R look very close.
