Jerry Moore RIP
The GD Family has lost one of it's finest members.
Jerry Moore left us last night and will be dearly missed. Thank You for all of your hard work and contributions to the community. Though I never got a chance to meet him, I feel I lost a brother today. Thought and Prayers go out to Jerry's family.

I didn't know the guy but its a damn shame and a great loss!-He and the 1st wave of GD/JGB tapers really helped feed my jones for audience tapes
"LET'S GO TO THE TAPE" What to say, to wrap it all? "Nothing" would be perfect, not to mention elegant.... ....but silence is a concept, and one I haven't mastered. The Buddha I'm not, nor will I ever be. I'm fond of music, and many other things. Music, in a world of things defined - Is sound imposed on silence, modulated And time-specific. It's over when it's over, Lost in the noise and silence - Over, ended, done. "That's how it USED to go" Said Dylan, A long, long time ago: "But now it goes like THIS" - And it's always nineteen sixty-six. "Things fall apart" - Yeats said that. Nothing lasts forever - true - basic design flaw. Universe itself won't Last, and serves it bloody well right, too. Shoddy goods. Manufacturer oughta be crucified.... I wash my hands of metaphors. Music is transient, like the aforementioned "everything." Fortunately, there's A LOT of it around - but I'm fond of it, as was also mentioned, and, for me, there Was never ENOUGH. Some good stuff got away, went unrecorded or was left Unreleased. So, many years ago, I began collecting outside the box, with some Success. I'm advised I'm good at it. I'm far from alone in that - there's a world of music out there, and worlds of variations To be explored. The joy's in the quest itself, in discovery, in listening and in sharing. That LAST part's important. Hoarding is a hobby for deviants and morons. I look on my Tapes as a legacy of sorts. I don't plan on taking them with me. THIS next part should go without saying, as it seems obvious.... It's obvious to ME, but different worlds, different worldviews, So it'll have to be said: Only a complete dirtbag makes a buck off someone else's work. Free exchange, yes - commercial use, no. NOBODY has any right whatsoever to use this recording for their own benefit. Further, when and where possible, I would ask that you support the artists who Originally made this music. Starving artists don't perform. That said, this is one of my recordings, and I hope you enjoy it. It all rolls into one, yes? It's a wrap. Jerry Moore March 4th, 2007 No members have liked this post.

Wow...I would've thought at least one other member here knew of Jerry and his taping exploits over the last few decades. Not just the Grateful Dead...he taped lots of Floyd and some LZ as well.

Well, it certainly belongs somewhere. Jerry Moore was a taping legend, and from the people who knew him, an even better human.
I'll be seeding a selection of his shows here to get the ball rolling, hopefully a few peeps will join me. There is SO much we owe thanks to Jerry Moore for. If you don't know and are curious, search the LMA, and go to LL (www.shnflac.net) and check out the seeds there. You probably even have a tape that Jerry made and not even know it. His GD and JG/MS tapes from 1974 are as good as they come. But there is so much more. ~His tapes are the reason people started taping, and were the inspiration for other taper to get better.~ Here is a quote from Bob Menke from a recent upload to bt.etree.org that explains it WAY better than I can. "This release is dedicated to our community's late friend, Jerry Moore. Godspeed to you my friend. When I first met Louis Falanga, he had come out from Brooklyn to live in Lake Tahoe. He had grown up with and was best friends with Jerry. I quickly discovered that New York deadheads had a wider range of musical tastes than I did. Country flavored rock was particularly sought after by Louis and Jerry. Other examples would include the Byrds, and the individuals who made them up...ie Chris Hillman etc., Emmy Lou Harris etc. and Commander Cody particularly. They ate this stuff up, Without much chewing I might add. So I'm pretty sure Jerry loved this stuff. Many years back, Jerry loaned me all his 1974 GD master cassettes and I have beta hi fi and pcm tracks of them. I have always treasured them. He trusted me with those tapes and I copied them with the respect they deserved. He was the man early on. After we heard those tapes and got our own 152's in 1975 we wanted to make tapes like that. Its fair to say we wanted to be Jerry Moore. We had our differences of opinion in the last few years, but he was one man I always respected. He called his tapes "his children" and wanted them to outlast him. Jerry, your tapes are now doing just that. I wish it hadn't happened so soon, though. -- Bob Menke" RIP Jerry Moore.

You might know that Jerry Moore's 1978-05-06 U of V Burlington is missing the opener, "Sugaree." Well, here's why:
Jerry Moore - Jan 14, 2009 12:43 pm (#44310 Total: 44314) Moore was outside, enjoying a lovely spring afternoon with a very sweet young lady, and, believe this or not as you will, doing things like headstands, cartwheels, and at least one long string of forward rolls down a grassy hill. later, enjoyed a magnificent "Terrapin." delightful day, missed "Sugaree," big whoop. all in all, can live with that. would cheerfully do it again. Jerry Moore was a hero and he made history for us. One time he got praise online and he came out of the woodwork to say "you're welcome." Great man, great recordings, will last forever.
