Ripping using iTunes, is it okay? / EAC n00b help needed
(I read the faq, and searched and didn't come up with anything) - I was wondering if ripping using iTunes is okay, or do i need to use one of the programs mentioned in the faq. You'll have to forgive me, I've never uploaded a torrent before.

Re: Ripping using iTunes, is it okay?
You should use one of the programs mentioned. iTunes has been shown to not do 100% accurate rips. EAC is the absolute best program, however it's only available on the PC. If you are on a Mac, then get xACT, and it will extract the files for you using the best Mac program.
If you have other questions, feel free to post back in this thread.

Re: Ripping using iTunes, is it okay?
use on of the ones in the FAQ--if you're on a PC, you can't beat EAC

no, if you're on PC use EAC and if you're on a MAC, use xAct.

Re: Ripping using iTunes, is it okay?
I'm reading through the EAC tutorial in your signature, Five, and it's talking about dl'ing an ASPI layer. It says I need one, and it directs me to a place where I can get one, nero.com, but I don't see anywhere where there's a free download. Any suggestions as to where I can dl one? and I'm running on a windows xp.

Re: Ripping using iTunes, is it okay?
I'm sorry but I'm not sure what you mean... do you mean you're having trouble downloading the EAC program itself? exactaudiocopy.de
the link in my signature is about configuration. its a bit mind-boggling but when you work thru it step by step its logical and once its done it stays done. #1 is to make sure you're in secure more, all error checking stuff set to maximum. then get the offsets right and test them to really put the icing on the cake.

Re: Ripping using iTunes, is it okay? / EAC n00b help needed
Okay, I finally got off my lazy behind and gave this another go. I renamed the tracks, and now I want to extract them to my hard drive. I go to Action -> Copy Selected Tracks, and then I get 2 options: "uncompressed" and "compressed". I'm supposed to do uncompressed, right (F5)? Well, that's what I'm going with (uncompressed) until I check back
Oh, and I want to save the tracks as mp3, right? No members have liked this post.

Re: Ripping using iTunes, is it okay? / EAC n00b help needed
Woah. Reading the EAC tutorial in your sig and some of it is confusing. I'm trying to configure the LAME encoding options. I'm at the part where I choose either VBR or CBR encoding. I'm guessing VBR would be the best bet for me... I'm using LAME version 3.97, so would I go with the bitrate for version 3.90a and put --nspsytune --vbr-mtrh -V1 -mj -h -b96 --lowpass 19.5 --athtype 3 --ns-sfb21 2 -Z --scale 0.98 in the "additional command line options"? Thanks in advance for the help.

Re: Ripping using iTunes, is it okay? / EAC n00b help needed
no, you for sure want to avoid saving as mp3. that's probably what's taking so long, and if you encode it to mp3 just put that on your ipod and don't share it with anybody. also AAC or OGG are preferable for listening, but not tradeable either.
if you want to share it here stick with WAV then convert to FLAC using FFE or TLH.
