Another DVD Problem Im Stuck With

I described this in the other thread, but thought it might help out more people in its own....

I have a DVD+R I recieved in a trade that plays perfectly on a stand alone DVD player. On my computers dvd drive it doesnt show the video folder, as its not a closed disc. I have tried to close the disc and get this message (using Roxio):

"Session Fixation Error: Empty or partially written reserved track in session - Illegel Request"

So no luck there. And then I remembered Lynne posted this:

So I tried that, as it recognized that there was actually a video_ts folder on the disc. But when I tried that I got to about 14% done and get this error message:

"Unrecognized read error: Medium error"

So there is something on that disc, that plays on a dvd player, I just cant get it off that disc any way. Any suggestions? Thanks, and cheers.

Does the whole disc play OK in a standalone player?

Are you able to try the disc in a different DVD-ROM drive? I have access to about 4 or 5 different drives, and I had a case where a particular disc was only readable in one of them.

It plays fine on 3 different stand alone dvd players, but just wont read in any dvd reader (and they are all DVD+R which the disc is)

Which seems to prove that it's not a hardware problem, but a software problem.

Have you tried different software to create an image file from the DVD? "DVD Decryptor" seems to be the standard Windows tool for that kind of thing. I don't know what else is available for Windows, but if you know someone with a Linux box, you can simply type:

dd if=/dev/hdc of=image.iso

Where "/dev/hdc" is the "device name" of the DVD drive - this varies between installations, and "image.iso" is the output filename.

Unless someone comes up with a better plan, I think it's just a case of trying as many different methods of creating an image file as you can until one works.

so I take it you can't see the VIDEO_TS folder and its contents in normal explorer view, right? If you can I have another option that might work...

Have you tried DVD Decrypter? The author has been forced to discontinue it, but it can still be downloaded from here:

(scroll down to the bottom of the page).

As far as I know, this is the recommended Windows DVD ripper - I've never used it, but am pretty sure it can rip to an image file.
