converting 24 bit >16bit

How do I get my 24 bit torrents down to 16 bit so I can burn to CDR?

There has to be a way, a freeware maybe?

having been around now for a while I suspect that the FAQ tech help is a bit high level for noobs....I think I mostly got help figuring out how to do anything with these file sets by begging for help. conversion burning n playing on ones computer for mac or for pc let alone generating uploadable files are tricky until one is pretty well versed in this stuff

r8brain is the easiest option if you're a windows user (I'm assuming that you are as you've not stated your operating system). Freeware, and everything is pretty much self-explanatory.

Use this program all the time, doesn't get any easier

I use r8brain v1.9 (very high quality setting) because it's simple to use and sounds better to my ears than using Audacity or CD Wave Editor.

i tried audacity once for editing, couldn't figure anything out, and quit....

i'm not exactly a noob, but i have come no further on many tech fronts...

as 24bit taping is getting more and more standard but the main (new) torrents mostly are still running @16bit...i'd like to add a question here:

anyone ever did compare the different 24bit -> 16bit ways/converters and settings in terms of quality?

There is a problem with the sample rate converting algorithm used by audacity. Sometimes it will add approx 2 seconds of not quite silence to the tail end of each track. Therefore, the best bet if using Audacity is to combine all the tracks into one file (adding labels at the track points) then convert the one file. You can then split the file back down following the original tracking (export multiple files based on the labels), and if the algorithm has been playing its little trick, the additional tail of not quite silence will be at the end of the last track and not mess up your live recordings...

I think Audacity will give you that little noise if the files are not cut on SBE.
To produce tracks without SBE in Audacity you need to change your timer (at the bottom of the program, near the Project rate), to one of the two 'CDDA frames' timers and to check the snap box.
