View Full Version : kinda obvious mp3-sourced file, I think

I had a sneaking suspicion that this file was mp3-sourced, and looking at the spectrum in Audacity seems to confirm the notion. At least that what amateur-Even believes. Any help would be very much appreciated! :)

I'd agree

Thanks a bunch! :)

I got this from EZT/Dime as unlisted bonus tracks to a live show. It's Fiona Apple unreleased studio album Extraordinary Machine. This album - I gather all the other songs are mp3 as well - haven't been circulating in any lossless format as far as I know. This seems to confirm that it's been mp3-only from day one.

BTW, could it be 192 kbps VBR because of the chunky, block-like shapes? I'm trying to learn how to spot mp3-sourced thingies, so I've been reading a little about it, but I'm a beginner still.

Thanks again, ssamadhi and Five!

Ummm that album is coming out by the way. And since we now know this could that gap alos be part of some sort of watermarking.

It looks vbr to me too, since the top isn't flat. I'm sure some will disagree...

Yes, I will.

And would you please stop spreading this rumour? Variable bitrate has absolutely nothing to do with a variable cutoff frequency.

I got this from EZT/Dime as unlisted bonus tracks to a live show. It's Fiona Apple unreleased studio album Extraordinary Machine. You should report that torrent if it's still up. That site just had a scare, I'm sure they don't want more lawyers coming after them.

Thank you very much for the clarification, ssamadhi.

Where did you hear this? It's been repeatedly postponed for the last two years, and the only release plans I've heard talk about is late July, and that is third or fourth hand information from a record shop clerk allegedly sitting on information no one else has. If I have missed something, I stand corrected. :)

I don't follow. Which gap?

I might just do that. Even if it's not coming out, the album is easily available elsewhere, and coverting the mp3s to flac - like the EZT seed did - is just stupid.

There is still no scheduled release for the Fiona Apple album. And New Homebrew had already told people that the tracks were mp3-sourced, so I guess that if Dime want to keep the torrent up, they might as well.
