I got in this Simple Minds show recently...
The source was taped with a Net-MD...Sony mz-n710.

The spectral seems to show so...but anyway, from the attached
screen shot, there seem to be some frequency in the higher regions
showing what seem to be an analog transfer from MD > CDR?

looks like md, digital transfer. there's usually more noise in the highs when its an analog transfer. also, as I recall, netmd is much easier to get a digital tranfer from (no standalone player necessary).

The lineage I got was from MD > Standalone player.
Assuming he does not have a standalone deck, how is it possible to do
a digital transfer with that portable MD recorder he has, considering
the specs did not state any digital outputs?

via usb>sonicstage

I could be wrong about that, however.

his lineage is imo perfectly believeable from what I can see in those pics.

some info on the deck here:
http://www.minidisc.org/part_Sony_MZ-N710.html

it comes with a usb connector & sonicstage software fwiw

Oppss...I think I said wrongly..

Assuming he really used the portable to the standalone...
There is no way he can do a digital transfer right?

:hmm: not sure what you're asking here

if he said MD>standalone, that probably means he recorded on the md portable, then took the md out of the portable and put it in the standalone, which has a digital output.

If you tell me why you want to know about this I can answer your question better!

Haha..maybe I'm confusing you.

But anyway, I just thought if its a pure digital transfer, anything above 16khz is a complete blank.. Prob was I saw some "blue stuff" above 16khz, at around 17 -20khz, and I suspected it was an analog transfer..

Am I wrong on this, such that digital transfer will also see similar stuff, and not pure black in the spectral. I'm based this against the verified digital transfers I've seen.

okay, I'm thinking twice, probably it is an analog transfer. I've seen some analog transfers being traded with a lot more noise in the highs, but I went back to a show I taped on md & transferred analog earlier this year and it looks a lot like the screenshots you posted.

this one is:
Source: Sony ECM-ZS90 (Stereo) > Sony MZ-R30 > TDK MD(m)
Transfer: Sony MZ-R30 (playback) > EMU 0404 (Analog) > CEP2.1 (recording, cutting, no fx) > FLAC

That's right...the screenshots U posted are exactly what I see.
The verified digital transfer I had, had zero noise above 16khz.

Thanks! :D

you're welcome

I should have realized it has to be pure black up top like you said from the beginning.
