Hey can someone tell me if this has come from a lossy source?
I attached a sample because I figured it would be more effective than just a screenshot. It's from Led Zeppelin - Georgia On My Mind (Salt Lake City) 1973-05-26.

I'm pretty sure that's MD

what is the lineage given?

Thanks for the imput. The guy I got this off told me it was a CDR of his "Georgia on my Mind".
If what he said was true you would expect the lineage to be:
Original Silvers>CDR>EAC - WAV>Edited to 2 sample nero wave editor>FLAC

I bought the CDRs off ebay quite a while ago before I knew anything about such sites as this, etc.

I've attached another sample, this time from disc 2, see if that gives similar results.

Edit: this time the 2 second sample was edited with CoolEdit 2000, and converted with FLAC frontend 1.7.1, rather than just saving it to FLAC straight from nero wave editor.

this track has the same characteristics of the first one you posted, looks very very similar (as expected).

you can use view>spectral view to see s.a. in cool edit 2000. zoom the view to around 2seconds on several parts usually is best.

there's some shows making the rounds that are from the pre-md days yet have distinctive ATRAC (MD) artifacts visible. they also look like very clean digital transfers, so probably some people with MD decks have been archiving to ATRAC very carefully, probably not realizing what was lost in the process. you should be able to find a clean copy of this if you talk to some of the zeppelin ppl around here.

also I recommend using a ripping program that provides error reports (EAC is what I use). Make sure it is in secure mode & even better to determine & set your offsets... info is here: http://users.pandora.be/satcp/tutorials.htm
