I had a long time membership there & had trouble logging in. Nobody responds to emails. People join but can't get confirmed. This is how it's been for the last couple years...

I've been to zomb a few times a few years ago, they were pretty good
but I went back there recently and they must be maxxed out on uploads! :wtf:
they didn't have much at all, much less than last time I was there.
that was even during a freeleech period,
they have a fairly big membership but most of them do not post any shows.
I think we're referred to as "zombies" over there. it fits!
I was suprised, thought they'd be better than that now. :disbelief
obviously I will be shopping for a new site to post to when TD is gone.
they should declare a new holiday, Traders Den Memorial Day when it shuts down. :disbelief
much better reason for a holiday than most of the ones we have now.
there's another new memorial day every week now! :wtf:

Thank you all for what you've all provided for so long!

Edit to say that this is hitting me a bit hard now.

I am one of those quirky tapers that record weird, publicly unshareable music and have been here for 17 years.

I guess I have always counted on TTD to be here so that I could share this stuff.

Zomb is quiet but there are still uploads and the admin is definitely still there.

I wonder if http://electricladyland.synology.me might be a viable alternative for the stuff unacceptable at Dime? The site is usually slow to connect, but fully functional. It's not exclusively a Hendrix tracker either, barely at all, in fact.

I'm still confused, though. That 3gb torrent (it's the Stones In Color DVD, btw, added today) is still running perfectly - no errors, red flags or any sign that anything is wrong - so I'll ask again - why must TTD close?

There's no site to switch to. I've looked. Nothing as strict on quality, nor as small of a NAB list. Friends for years are going to lose touch and everything here will be lost to time. A hugely important part of my life and those of many tapers/uploaders will be lost forever. Thousands of people are now essentially homeless
May those in charge of this decision die slowly and painfully and burn in Hell forever after

Maybe you've already checked it out, but I think maybe your best option could be lossless legs. There is an NAB list, but I don't think it's as extensive as dime. Hope you make an effort to try out some other sites. Don't want to lose anybody.

It has been 15+ years for me following the site by RSS. It was a time before what.cd gave easy access to everything and I was just looking for more stuff by The Band and The Blues Brothers and related acts. And then The Who. Then Prince, and so on. Collecting and listening to just about everything is still my main hobby. 15 years later I still visit almost every day because somehow I still don't have everything I'm looking for. So thanks guys. 18 is an absurdly long time for a sharing site and forum.

Since torrents are usually easily reupped, and roios are typically transitory and not seeded forever, I am a little sad that you have not decided to instead start fresh on current software. That is easy for me to say though. It is not just migrating the DB that is a pain most likely, but also relearning everything for a new software stack. it I don't know anything about the administrators, but if you're even involved in running a site and forum for a few years, you're going to be in a different place in your life after a while where maybe it is time for someone else to do the work. So thanks again, for all the not-Phish.

Oh, I guess it's time to admit this is my second account, I lost my password to my original account pretty quickly so that seemed the best solution for reasons I don't recall. Hopefully the statute of limitations has passed on that one by now!

RE sites taking on refugees, since I've been on them for some duration as well: we all know Dime, it is hampered by the artist restrictions but if you're not there yet, you need to be there because there is plenty of good. There is Lossless Legs (shnflac.net), not just a jam band site, some nice stuff there. Zomb is fine if you like a very short list of mainstream rock bands, maybe some of you can bring some life into it, just be ready for donation begging everytime you log in. Electric Ladyland is a nice niche place but if you think TTD was unstable for a bit, that place hasn't loaded the torrents list for me once this year for all the timeouts. So no, we can't really replace TTD right now. But that replacement might have never shown up if TTD kept going. So here is hoping.

Sad to notice TTD is going away :(

I'm an admin at Zomb. I'll try to figure out the max users things with the site owner. Can't promise anything. Zomb is running on old codes too...

Zomb has sadly been somewhat quiet for several years now. Active userbase has shrunk significantly and uploads and stuff along with it.

I am running EL on my private server, so thats the reason why it's slow, but free of costs. And I'm a Stones fan, but also Hendrix, so just named it after Hendrix' double LP. The folks most active on EL are the Dylan folks.
We have no issues with "unacceptable" stuff, as longs as things are not overdone. We usually say that up to 10% of "questionable" stuff on a torrent ist accepted.

Inactive torrents had been accumulating for years without any pruning. I wrote a browser script to delete unseeded torrents a few months ago. It pruned about 50% of the torrents available at the time (unseeded for a year or more). I don't have database access so this sub optimal method was a result of that :wtf:

In the upper right "Thread Tools" you can pull down "Download This Thread" and it will save it as a text file.

Having been here since close to the beginning, this is a sad thing, however inevitable that the forum would cease to run on deprecated software.

Having said that, this community need not die, it just needs to adapt.

All it takes is a forum and cloud sharing. Simply share your files from your Google drive or Dropbox etc. HTTPS is faster and more secure. Use a seedbox with Opencloud on it. Use DHT torrents and post magnet links instead of .torrent links.

YOU HAVE OPTIONS! Yeah I know here come the skeptics, but trust me, this works well, all it needs is community to grow, just like TTD did at the start.

Simply migrate to a free forum account, Rebuild the subforums and start posting hyperlinks.

No place else has the easy format for SBD / Studio / etc in audio.
No place else has so much classic music.
With that said, and with not even a hint of a promise: if someone or more than one wanted to take it from where it is and try to bring it to a new platform with a new name, would it be something that could be entertained? or is it "just plain dead"?

Dear Friends...my life has been fairly bereft of happiness and i have many fears now that im turnin 70. I am stockpiling movies, tv shows and music for what ever befalls me in the future emotionally and physically. So, thats why i have made such use of yer site and i cannot thank u enuf. I would never sell anyting i got frum u. My tastes are so eclectic, but somehow, u got people who put up Sparks shows and that is so wonderful to this manboygeek! Much love to yer futures and again thank u for what yer passions have brought to the last years of my life! I freaked when i saw my name first on list as downloadingest guy!!! Happy rest o yer year!

Maybe you've already checked it out, but I think maybe your best option could be lossless legs. There is an NAB list, but I don't think it's as extensive as dime. Hope you make an effort to try out some other sites. Don't want to lose anybody.

LL is a taper friendly band site. If there isn't a taper section at the show it doesn't go there. It's also primarily a Grateful Dead site, and as such is overrun with 100 versions of a show with minute differences. Hard to sift through

Joining the thanks parade here. I've gotten some wonderful shows here that never popped up on DIME from many artists that weren't on their NAB list. That showed the quality and diversity that we're losing here. As far as that NAB list there, I'm a huge Todd Rundgren fan since the early 70's. Therefore I'll be missing those kinds of things, and things from some other jazz artists like John Scofield, that couldn't ever be on DIME. Sorry about that, and hoping that something else may fill that void, but the biggest thing is thanks to all for keeping this operating, and for all the great shares.

Plus if you don't visit for 30 days they delete your account

As for G101, that's great for people downloading, but for a major uploader like me I'd now have to pay for a ton of server space to host the files. I do torrents because I host for a few hours, then they take on their own lives.

Thanks from the bottom of my heart. I think of TD and DaD as 1a and 1b of torrent sirtes. Going to be hard to give up scrolling through posts every day. Oh well, might as well do something positive out of this by actually listening to the 1000's of shows I've downloaded. Sad to say but after 16 years I got my ratio to a respectable number.

Grunching here, so I'm not sure if anything is being considered, but I do wish that at least more notice for the shutdown could be given.

I think it would be great if you could let TTD continue as is until the end of the year, with the caveat that if sometime major crashes before that time then it won't be fixed. It still would give us more time to get things that we want off TTD and find a suitable alternative.

I tried posting this the other day, but the reply box, and even replies in general, have been somewhat wonky for the last few months, but it is sad to see this place go. I remember how TTD rose from the ashes of STG, and maybe something may rise from the ashes of TTD. And if so, might I suggest Phoenix be included somehow, since it would be twice that it's happened? LOL

But I guess all good things must end, and it's been a fun run. I may not have been here as much as I was at Dime, or Zomb, or R-O, but this place set the standard for lineage. Now everyone does it.

So thanks for 18 years of this place, and for the years that STG was around before.

LL is ok with bands that aren't explicitly taper friendly with taper sections, but yes, they do not want bands that are explicitly anti-taper. So there is an NAB list. Similar to dime.

One of the main prohibitions on LL is liberated bootlegs. If you are recording the shows, then that is not a problem for you.

LL is centered around jam bands, but jam band fans typically have diverse tastes, so I do not think they would object to most of your recordings. Stuff in the general realm of rock, blues, bluegrass, country, jazz.

The reason why I suggest LL to you is that the info you upload for shows never gets deleted from the site. For dime, you are right that the info does get deleted after a period of time with no seeders. You should keep in mind that the info can still be accessed indirectly by downloading their mail archive.

That being said, I was unaware LL isn't currently accepting new members until the new year - bit of a problem there.

The Traders' Den is the first bittorrent site i ever joined. I had seen Sharing the Groove a few times by accident but never joined. The idea of downloading shows seemed beyond my capacity in terms of my ability and in terms of the computer i had at the time.

Soon after returning from Cream at the Royal Albert Hall in May 2005, I started seeing links to shows posted here. I decided that, although it was probably too complicated to download them, i'd give it a shot because i wanted a souvenir and the DVD was still 6 months away. So i asked a coworker and he gave me links to a client, decompression software, and some information on what to do and I joined this site and downloaded my first of many shows here and, eventually, elsewhere.

As the first site i ever joined, this one is special and that's why i'm making a comment. Many sites that i joined over the year (Boot City, Hunger City, this city, that city) are gone and i moved on to others but i have to comment on this one, being the very first. I'll miss it but understand the rationale behind closing it down.

Thank you for making the past 18 years a lot more musical, Traders' Den!

The Traders' Den is the first bittorrent site that I joined. I had just returned from the Cream Royal Albert Hall Shows and heard that there was a way to get copies of the shows through a bittorent site called TTD. I had never downloaded a show but thought that I'd give it a try. It was like magic! No longer was I restricted to listening to my favorite artists just from their commercial releases. Through the years I’ve been able to acquire a musical library that I’ve been able to enjoy and share with my friends. Thanks for making this possible! Kudos, Traders Den!

I have been a DimeADozen member for a long time. Like many quality sites, registration may be capped. You have to be careful to watch the ban list, and some artists posted here can not be posted there.

If you know how to search filefactory, there is actually quite a wealth of shows there (audio/video). worth the subscription, imho.

Well since the decision to close down must have been discussed amongst them, I say they forfeited their positions
The decision was not discussed amongst all the moderators. It was fully my decision. So, if you want to continue to be an angry ass about this whole thing, you can direct it at me.

Tragic news. This is, by far, the best live music sharing site.

I wonder how many members monitor these threads. Maybe the announcement at the top of the page(s) needs to be in much bigger print - I, for one, did not notice it.

I'm sure someone else amongst the huge membership would be able to take over, as Xavier242 did until his sad health issues.

Here's hoping! :)

With the sizeable user community here, I'd think there must be a techie or several who'd find it interesting.

That's a very stupid ASSHOLE thing to type. What are you 13 yrs old? Over 3,000 people died that day. People leapt to their deaths. Others were burned alive. People died in planes. U2Lynne, can you describe what would need to be done? What kind of ongoing maintenance does the site currently require, and is there also a technical backlog of sysadmin / coding work required on top of that to keep it stable and scaling? How much of the steady-state work is non-technical (moderation, etc.)?

If the site does shut down, I'm sure I'm not the only one who would appreciate an archive of the forum posts, or at least the torrent threads; there's lots of useful information about shows and recordings in there.

Could you please provide some details on the current hosting setup

Folks, you know like I do that we need this site to keep on keeping on. Nothing quite like it out there! I mean, sorta, but not really.

I just asked an old friend if there's any chance he can help, and he's looking into some stuff. Commodore 64 buddy in high school, I forgot about computers for decades while he made them his work. Knows his stuff, and then some! I have a feeling that he might be able to help save us. No promises, and I can't speak for him, but I can quote him:
I’m interested, send me detail details, etc.
It may take me a couple of days, you may wanna post that you found someone who’s interested

I've told him to sign up with us and poke around to see what's going on. So stay tuned, sit tight, hold on, and let's see if we can keep 'er running here!

More to come!

Fingers crossed that someone with the skillset (and presumably, time) takes on the task of keeping this all going. In the meantime, thanks to those who've done so behind the scenes throughout TTD's lifespan.
Best possible wishes too to xavier to hopefully get safely through a personal situation that must make our angst about losing the site seem quite trivial in comparison. Thanks for what was done to keep this going during the 2022 crisis, and best of luck moving forward.

sad news to read.... you have done a great job picking up the baton in 2022 and carrying it this far. I hope with this mass membership there are a few folks that can help out on the tech side. Id be willing to help housing, but id be terrible at the actual up keep and coding for the site. ugggh. what a crime and loss. thank you again for all you have done. Ive been around on here for many years over a decade like many of you. heres to ya all!! and heres to the folks that i know will come out of the wood work to help. Help on the way is how one band put it.

Not sure if it's of any use, but I have heard good things about Claude 3.5 Sonnet for programming and web design. Might be of use to anyone with difficult to find answers on transitioning the site's 2004 tech to modern forms. It seems to know about PHP and vBulletin from what I asked it. But most of that stuff is way over my head to know if it's detailed enough or correct.

So, I'm a frequent redditor and I know the sub /DataHoarder fairly well. Perhaps asking around over there might help find someone willing to take the reins? I'm not sure how anyone would feel about posting about this, over there, so I didn't, does anyone have any thoughts whether it would be worth it or not? Thanks and best luck- wish I could take over it, but I dont think I'd have the time/skills to maintain, either :(
