Hey guys,

I recently accquired a copy of The Stooges @ Hammersmith from 2005. The recording is very distant but running it through Adobe Audition it looked pretty funny....

I'm thinking it's mp3 but then again I could always be wrong .... thoughts?

edit: My apologies, I just noticed the "lossy or lossless?" sub-forum. If a Mod could please move that there it'd be appreciated. Again, I apologize for the mistake.

Both of these analyses are suspicious. If you could zoom the SA in to a 2 second clip, then post that, it would help us to identify it.

this is lossy, looks like MD to me

what is the lineage for this one?

All I know about it is that I received the disc in a trade from Dirt's Iggy Pop list .. The best I can do is .. aud > ?? > trade cdr(x) > cdr(x) ... I think I'll email him and see if he knows of any lineage about the discs he has .. he just has them listed with ratings .. no mentions of source, etc. So .. this is confirmed to be a lossy MD recording? or just mp3 files? I really wanted to share this with every one, but I guess now I can't .. Oh well, you win some, you lose some. If any one else can shed some light that'd be great ... for the rest that helped, thank you very much.

I agree, looks MD-ish.

So even if this is MD-ish .. should this be torrented or not (well at least not here, because I know of the rules)? Basically...even though it's MD-ish .. is it good or bad? I have other shows from MD sources that don't look this bad .. but I'm assuming maybe the taper used a shitty compression scheme? And for the record I am definately not an "mp3 collector" .. I've been around on STG .. I collect lossless shows only (I've started recently to just back them up instead of burning to CDRs) .. as far as I know, this is the ONLY source for this show but I'm not sure if it's acceptable.

MiniDisc is allowed here so long as it is what the show was taped on at the venue (not FM > MD, not DAT > MD > CDR etc). Its the exception to the lossless rule in audio trading here. This is also how it was at STG.

We're pretty sure this is MD but its not 100% positive that the taper used a minidisc (could be CASS(M) > MD for all we know). I would ask around looking for a known lineage, known generation version of this show & just trade this show one on one with ppl explaining to them what you know about it. All that having been said, imo this is probably an acceptable MD aud recording (it is aud, right?).

Yes, this show is an audience recording. Thank you for the reply, I will still ask around at other sites seeing what their thoughts are too. Thanks again for every thing!

So what's the verdict on this? If it's MD (which we're assuming) I'd like to know at least if it's a tradeable / allowed source show? I'm sure the answer is right in front of me but I'm too far back in the class room to see the chalk board... :lol

Yet again, thanks for your help, it's always appreciated.
