Does anyone know anything about this codec? I'm doonloading some TV captures and they are x264 avi files. I can't watch them with Quicktime or VLC (well when I play them in VLC it's very choppy and isn't watchable).

I'd like to try and convert these to a usable format, and a Google search turned up some source code to run (on a Mac). I know nothing about that stuff so I really can't use it. I'm going to check out videohelp.com but if anyone has any info here it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I was just browsing around videohelp. I think I can convert it with ffmpegx.

I would try to find a proper codec/program to play them. If you convert them you will probably get quite a big quality loss.

I run windows so i don't really know what to get for a mac. Are you sure you got the latest quicktime?

Now I remember that there is mplayer (http://mplayerosx.sourceforge.net/) , you could try it.

Are you running QuickTime 7 ? I thought x264 was just an h264 encoder and that should play in QT7.
