Assistance please with burning a DVD

Hello all and please excuse my ignorance. I have figured out how to download a show and burn to disk with EAC (woohoo, am "expert now" , however I have several DVD shows on my hard drive and cannot for the life of me figure out how to burn them to DVD. I have searched the archives, the net, etc. and can't get the info I need. Can someone please assist me and/or point me in the right direction to get some help so I can burn these shows? I have downloaded free trial of Nero and also have Windows DVD Maker, but cannot make sense out of any of this. I am by no means computer illeterate but on the other hand I am no expert which of course you know or I wouldn't be asking for help.

I assume that I need some kind of file conversion program for the files that I've downloaded, before I can burn to DVD. But I can't figure out what to do, please help!

Any info is appreciated, thanks in advance for your help!

LG

Re: Assistance please with burning a DVD

Hey everyone, another question and need assistance again please. I figured out Nero thanks to your help and was able to burn a perfect DVD copy. But...I just tried to burn a dual layer DVD, first one turned into a coaster, second one seemed to burn ok with no errors, but when I play it there are lots of "pauses" in the recording. What am I doing wrong or how can I fix this?

Any help is appreciated, thank you!

LG

Re: Assistance please with burning a DVD

I use Nero express to burn video DVDs, mostly single layer, and it works great. When you see the messages at the beginning of the burn process, like "sorting files" and "caching files" it indicates what is going on. If you see the message "(no file modified)" then none of the .ifo or .bup files will be changed. Sometimes Nero will change these .ifo and .bup files (not the actual video data .vob files), so your burned copy won't match the original seed. I think I have noticed that Nero modifies files only when I burn dual layer discs, and not on all dual layer shows. I think I'm going to buy ONES ($25) burning software. It is cheaper than Nero ($80) and NEVER modifies a file. Also burning at a midrange speed (like 4X) results in a lower risk of major errors most of the time. With dual layer discs there will be a slight pause or hesitation at the layer change sometimes. I can't seem to access the site where ONES usually is: http://shop.tx-software.com/boutique...&code_lg=lg_us

Here is a free trial of ONES:

Re: Assistance please with burning a DVD

Thanks for the info. I went to the website to download Ones but I'm getting msg that my trial period has already expired. I used search via this website and see that someone else had the same problem. Just trying to determine if I need another program or if my DVDs are garbage? They are Memorex DVD-R DLs??? If they are in fact garbage, would appreciate some info on what types of blanks to buy.

Thanks all,
LG

Re: Assistance please with burning a DVD

Yeah, Memorex are most definitely garbage. You might try to return them cause they were defective and produced a coaster. One of the worst discs made. Verbatim DVD+R DL are the best dual layer discs made, and Taiyo Yuden DVD+R 8X discs [model # (YUDEN000T02) ] are the best single layer discs. Taiyo Yuden makes the best CD-Rs as well. DVD+Rs are better than DVD-Rs. You can get Verbatims on www.newegg.com and Taiyo Yuden on www.supermediastore.com You might be able to find the Verbatims on supermediastore as well.

Re: Assistance please with burning a DVD

Hi everyone, I have another question re: dual layer DVDs. I bought the Verbatims mentioned earlier in this post and am having major probs when I burn, I tried 4-5 times and all times I receive multiple disk errors and cannot watch the show I recorded without skips, pauses and jumps. I am using Nero to burn.

Can anyone offer any insight? Thanks in advance for your help, LG

Re: Assistance please with burning a DVD

I made the simple mistake of not realizing that the Dvd burner must be a Dual-Layer Burner. lol Just a thought.
