Low Cost receiver/Amp suggestions?

I am looking to buy a low cost receiver/amp for my 20 yr old son for Christmas. Don't need surround - a simply 2-channel would work. So far have found mostly junk for $200 and less. If I wanted to jump up to $300 range, the Harman Kardon HK 3390 looks pretty nice, but is a little more than I wanted to spend.

Any suggestions?

Re: Low Cost receiver/Amp suggestions?

look for an older model used...check http://www.prodigitalinc.com , and ebay of course, possibly even B&H's used gear section

have found some great old Sansui tube amps in excellent condition under that price range that'd blow the $500 amps today outta the water
