AVI file conversion for Toast...

I was wondering if anyone knows how to convert AVI DVD files to a useable format for Toast on a Mac? I havn't had any success searching the web or the trial by error method. Or for that matter, is it worth the trouble?
Any help is greatly appreciated!

Re: AVI file conversion for Toast...

If you mean you want to convert AVI (DivX, XviD) to (S)VCD/DVD then Toast 7 is what you need, though it is of course not free.

The best free (well, shareware) option is ffmpegx <http://homepage.mac.com/major4/>. If you have the DivX/Xvid components <http://people.ee.ethz.ch/~naegelic/index.php> installed in /Library/QuickTime you can use the DVD ffmpeg Quick Preset, if not you'll need to use the DVD mpeg2enc one. Whichever preset you do use, I'd advise you to skip through and check the converted files all the way to end before burning.

If you do have the components above installed and the file plays in QuickTime, you can *probably* use Toast 6 but the encoder is much improved in 7. Check the file with VLC first to check which audio codec was used as, if it was AC3, you'll need to install the QT AC3 component as well <http://www.insaneness.com/ac3.html>.

Re: AVI file conversion for Toast...

Thanks...I'll have to check into that. I am running on Toast 6 right now, so I'll get to those sites and look around.

Re: Problems Burning DVDs with nero

what is the specific error yer gettin?

if yer trying to burn a watchable disc for yer standalone dvd player, just open Nero Burning ROM...choose "DVD-Video"...drag *all* of the contents from the show's Video_TS folder to the *red Video_TS* folder in the projects window...then click burn

Re: VOB files?

I'm moving this to Technobabble. Have a look/search in this forum (Technobabble) for burning DVDs. We've gone over it many times. If you have more specific problems after reading those threads, post back here.

Re: VOB files?

Sonic will not burn a VIDEO_TS folder (vob, bup, ifo files). You need to search in this forum for DVD Burning and then there will be several threads that go over different programs to use to burn a DVD.

DVD reallocation error?

I have been trying to burn a DVD that I downloaded here, and nero continues to give me a dvd reallocation error. CloneDVD won't burn it either. Any suggestions?

Re: DVD reallocation error?

did you first try verifying the checksum to make sure everything is there properly?

next, i believe Nero gives you the option to continue burning even tho its reporting the error [this error is a bug in Nero], if so try it. alot of times, it will play just fine on yer standalne DVD player.

also, make sure the firmware for your particular drive is up-to-date [this shouldn't affect the "error message" in Nero, but is important none the less]...usually at the website for the drives manufacturer.

lastly, try searching over at http://forums.afterdawn.com & http://forum.digital-digest.com for more info...goodluck!

Re: DVD reallocation error?

Search here too cuz I've seen this question before. If I remember correctly I think Aaron's right, you can ignore it and it will be okay.
