cd-r / cd player compatibility

I recently bought a Denon DCM-380 cd player and it's having a little trouble reading my TDK cd-r's. I know certain cd players have trouble with certain cd-r's but I haven't seen a list of best cd-r's for specific players. Has anyone had greater or lesser success with specific cd-r's given your specific player?

As an aside, it is quite possible that I could be doing something wrong but I haven't hear dany complaints from others that I've burned cds for. Any suggestions as to what else might contribute to such a problem?

PS: I kow this might be a more of a Technobabble post but I thought it'd get more of a response here.
