Guess you'll have to cancel your trip!

or pay for Nero.. you need Nero anyway.

Try sourceforge.org for good, free software. Sorry, but I can't recommend DVD burning software, as I am unfamiliar with it myself.

Re: URGENT: Need help burning my DVD's!

Are you saying the Nero Demo does not have the ability to burn DVDs or are you saying that you cannot burn DVDs with Nero? Because before I got Nero I downloaded the demo and I seem to remember that it was fully functional. Perhaps I am wrong about that.

Let me ask you a couple of really stupid questions. Have you ever burned a DVD on your computer before? Are you certain you have a DVD burner on your computer (not just a CD burner – two different things)? The reason I ask is I seem to remember a dialog in this forum with someone who realized, several posts in, that he lacked a burner. He thought he could burn a DVD on his CD burner.

I use Nero. Most programs are the same in that you drag all files (VOB, IFO, BUP) into the VIDEO_TS folder. Ignore the AUDIO_TS folder entirely. Then hit burn.

Update us on your situation.

Rob

Re: URGENT: Need help burning my DVD's!

My free solution is to use imgtool to create an image from the folder, then use DVDDecrypter to burn the disk. There are alot of ways to do this without buying Nero so I'm sure others will give you options as well. Surf the websites listed here and you'll find something that works well for you.

Here's imgtool http://www.coujo.de/
There's actually a version now that'll burn them too. I guess I've got to spend some time checking this out.

Re: URGENT: Need help burning my DVD's!

burnatonce is free and it will burn DVDs with VIDEO_TS folders. Once you have it installed just go to Mastering/DVD Video and you can drag files into the VIDEO_TS window there. Then click Compile/OK/Write.

How long does it take you to burn a DVD w/Toast?

This forum is great! I've just gotten into DVDs, and you all have been super helpful in getting me started!

Here's my question...I'm using Toast 6.0 to burn Taiyo Yuden 8x DVD-Rs. For some reason it takes like an hour and a half to burn and verify. I'm burning at "best" quality in the burning options window.

If anyone has any input, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I should add I'm using a 12 inch PowerBook G4 (10.3.9) with the Matshita DVD-R UJ-825 DVD burner (part of the standard Superdrive).

Re: How long does it take you to burn a DVD w/Toast?

Well I think the 16X drives can burn 4.7GB in around 6 min., and top burn speed on your drive is 4X so 24 min. to burn, plus time to verify could be 1/2 hour easy.

Re: How long does it take you to burn a DVD w/Toast?

shouldn't be taking 1 1/2 hours though...i usually burn at 4x/"Best" and it only takes ~20-30mins...could be that the drive needs a firmware upgrade? thats slowed me down to a crawl in the past...also could be the the Matshita drive doesn't like the particular "model" of TY discs...

just did a search for a firmware update on this drive--can't find one yet...i'll let ya know if i do

Re: How long does it take you to burn a DVD w/Toast?

Thanks, I'll check the firmware. It's done this with the two different kinds of discs I've used, both +R and -R.

I thought it shouldn't take this long. Could it be a memory issue? I don't have any other programs running, but only have ~10 gigs left on a 45 gig drive...

Yup, it's the firmware I think:

I guess I know what I'm doing when I get home tonight
