creating checksums

it's probably me...but I am having a very difficult time attempting and understanding how to create the checksums for a torrent I want to seed. The md5 files are already included with the rest of the files, however, after reading the rules and whatnot, I understand that these are not good enough. I attempted to use the foobar2000 tool to create these after reading up on the info available in Technobabble and other areas. However, no luck. Is there anything or anyone who can clarify all this for me. I have been just a leecher for quite some time, and would like to do my part to give back after taking so much. Thanks in advance for any assistance. I just want to be a good "trader" and seed some of the great stuff I have, but have been stymied every time I try over the last 2 years with great frustration.
