Can I extract one song from a completed DVD?

So I was given a stack of DVD's the other day, and I want to make a promo video containing various short segments from each DVD. I also want to extract individual songs to upload onto youtube/myspace. I've edited and authored numerous DVD's using sony vegas/architect, but I've never had to reverse the process so I'm a little lost and confused about where to start.

How would I go about taking a DVD (.VOB) file and extracting one song to an .avi or .mpeg?? Is this process even possible or do I need to recapture and edit the original footage??

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Extract to mpeg2 > Import mpeg2 to vegas > render
