Seeding old torrents

I look through seeding opportunities and see a torrent I have so I retrieve it from my other external drive (WD) and copy it to the drive I am currently using to download. It seems everytime I try to seed it, it starts to download instead. It's a TTD torrent and I don't understand why it doesn't seed. I use to be able to do this but not for the past few (lot) torrents. Am I doing something wrong?

If it's the same files and you direct your download to the right folder I can't see why it wouldn't work. That does sound strange.

Re: Seeding old torrents

Sometimes folks change something in the files, whether it's renaming things, or altering the file structure (putting some things in their own folder, etc...) and that'll throw your seeding hopes in the trash!

Best you can do if it's just small differences is to start downloading and then stop it after it's begun to write some files on your drive, then stop it and copy your pre-existing files over the partly downloaded ones, then force a re-check in your torrent program. If the files are the same, and the structure is identical, it should re-check to 100% and start seeding... I've seen re-encoded FLAC's that don't check out at all, re-tagged files that re-check most of the file but need the headers re-downloaded so like 80% or 90% matches, new text files or stuff changed, etc.

Re: Seeding old torrents

1st thing I always do before making any changes, tagging etc. is make a copy the copy gets the changes the original stays as is. The original folder must be put back in the same location as it was when 1st downloaded. You mentioned copying it from the drive it was on to the drive you are currently using for downloads. Does that drive have the same drive letter as when you first downloaded the folder ? Did you remove copy from the folder name? Do you have the software icon from the initial download from whatever software you used to download ?

The ones I am talking about are the seeding request. Torrents that are already on TTD but need a seed. Nothing has been changed. And I don't change anything on my side.

Re: Seeding old torrents

What torrent client are you using? Once you have the data files in the folder that the torrent client is pointed at, what do you do to open the torrent?

I'm using Vuze Plus. To open, I just click on the torrent FMMR 1986-11-21 Spectrum,Montreal.torrent

Instead of seeding it begins to download.

Is that the torrent file that you downloaded when you got the fileset originally, or are you downloading the torrent file from the current torrent?

For whatever reason, it seems to have fixed itself. Sorry for the bother and thanks for the replies.
