Question What it wrong with DVD Decrypter?

Hello all! I have a small yet difficult question to give to anyone who is able to answer. I noticed in your FAQ section that there is a statement that says to not use DVD Decrypter to copy the files but to simply drag and drop them. I'm confused at why this rule is in place. I have used DVD Decrypter to extract video for years and I've even compared bitrates between drag&drop Vs. DVDD and the bitrates are exactly the same. Is the risk that the program would miss part of the file a likely contributor to this rule? Let me know!

Re: What it wrong with DVD Decrypter?

DVD Decrypter is a great bit of software for ripping DVDs. As your tests prove there is no difference between using 'drag and drop' and using DVD Decrypter.

There is a chance that you might miss copying the .md5 (checksum), .txt and artwork files if you only use DVD Decrypter but I'm sure you're capable of doing this manually.

So, feel free to keep on using DVD Decrypter!

How do you move files to & from hard drives? Drag & drop.
There is ZERO reason to use dvd decrypter or dvd shrink unless its an official release with copyright protection.

Re: What it wrong with DVD Decrypter?

I see your point, but isn't that what DVDD does? I find that moving files from the disc to the HDD is actually pretty slow. Please note that I"m not arguing here and rules are rules I just don't understand even IF the DVD does not have copy-protection, what makes a difference between D&D and DVDD.

Thanks for replying

I seldom use DVD Decrypter.
I need to rip my DVD to high definition video file to keep the quality and that's why I go to DVD Ripper.

Well, actually, that wouldn't keep the quality. It would re-encode it by giving it
a higher bitrate than the original. Thus, actually degrading it a bit.

I find DVD Decrypter faster. Its also good for slightly scratched discss because it can ignore errors, if I copy/paste directly I would get CRC error even if the video itself is perfectly intact.
