Need new DVD player that will read Dual-layer discs

I have checked out videohelp.com but it is hard to find any definative reviews for an affortable unit that will play dual-layer burned discs. After buying 2 budget Phillips models which both have this problem, another brand would be ideal.

If anyone could personally recommend a player that they have used I would really appreciate it. There is nothing worse then a player that will not read!!

Thanks

Any standalone player plays dual layer. The problem can be in disc type (R+ better, however some SA prefer R-), brand (Verbatim the best), and how the disc is burnt: speed, layer break, your PC burner vs. brand of disc used.

The discs were HP 2.4x DVD+Rs and I have also had occasional issues with 8x Verbatim DVD-Rs. Maybe this info will help.

do the same discs that fail in your stand-alone work in the same PC you burned with or in a different PC for that matter?

might be an issue with the burner, how they were burned or if/how the disc was closed.

Yes, they play fine in both of the DVD drives in my computer. I use Nero or DVD Decrypter that produce the exact same read problems with my standalone players.

Maybe changing the book type could help? Then the player thinks it is a DVD-ROM, not a DVD+R.

here are some infos about that:

Besides above suggestions, try to burn a DL disc with Imgburn. Here is the guide.

Re: Need new DVD player that will read Dual-layer discs

Its sounding more and more like it is this book type problem. I'll experiment later today and see what happens.

Thank you to everyone who has responded!
